Although my main interest in Filter Forge is for photoart I am also interested in effects on text. Looks like Filter Forge has many possibilities here!

Text Effects have many uses... ad work, website work, signs and greeting cards are just a few uses I can think of. I put together an image to test effects on text and would love to see what your filters can do but please only post effects where the text is still readable. (what good is it if you can't read it?) smile:D

If you're using Photoshop, I would really recommend you use 16-bit mode when working with text -- FF should work much better with 16-bit antialiased text. Also don't forget about the power of the Selection component along with Photoshop Type Mask tool smile:)

onyX, I'm using Photoshop 7..
guess I'm behind the times, it won't work with text in 16 bit mode smile:cry:

Donna,
Here is one that seems to work well with text, Tin Can.

Donna,
This is one example using Metals by Lucato. Move your pixel slider down to 20-50 pixels and you will get a more readable effect. This is also true when using my filter Tin Can. This example was made using preset #3.

Interesting, I did not even think about this aspect of FF. I thought I would try something a little different but not to crazy. I tried Neon Sidewalk Chalk http://www.filterforge.com/filters/829.html

i just uploaded a new filter to do some simple drop shadow/ghosting effects specifically for text. it can be used on other images as well. the name is 'Text Offset 1a'.

Wow! some cool effects!

photoman, your results with Tin Can and Metals are nice and clear! and the first one in your second example has such a classy look to it.
CFandM, your Sidewalk Chalk works great! I gotta play more with this one. colors are versitile too.
Craig, what a interesting tiled look! which filter did you use on it? hmm could use that one for making webpage backgrounds... ! Look forward to seeing your new Text Offset, drop shadows always come in handy!
Donna, lol you keep your crown smile:blush: you earned it! smile:D

photoman, those are cool. the bubble-wrap one particularly stands out.

this is a whole new area for FF. we've been hollering for fonts in FF but with enough effects like these we may not need them.

sherry, ummm, i dont really remember at the moment what filter that's from. it shld say on the picture name. as for the filter i made, it may not be a true drop shadow; i basically used the offset component on one leg and some other simple effects on another and then used a blend mode to bring them together to get the shadow look. i hate to keep harping on this but this is another filter where more control components would be a big help. i'd rather have one filter that did a hundred things than 10 filters that did 10. so i limited the effects here to just the shadowing.

here's another example of that text pic from yet another filter i havent uploaded yet. boy, i gotta start finishing these things smile:)

Heres a couple of more examples. Kind of a different crazy font with a big outline on the text. It seems that some filters work and look best with a huge outline on the text. This is from Neon Sidewalk Chalk.

CF and photoman, all very cool smile:)

if FF ends up not being able to use fonts within it, i think the FF guys might have another product on their hands.

I dug out this old thread as it seemed appropriate for announcing the Text Effects Filter Base Snippet that is coming to the library. It's purpose is to make it easier to build and, especially, to demonstrate the effect on type.

Here's my first rapid example, Distressed, made from this base snippet.
