Submitted this filter some days ago. strangely it wasn't published so far so today I re-submitted it again, was actually supposed to be an update but as the first version wasn't published I couldn't send an update. So hopefully we will see this one coming through soon. Rendering the stars takes AAAGES but they can be toggled off.

Woah nice! I'm lovin' the perspective
![]() One thing though, I think it should glow, like this: Also, and take these as constructive, the stars IN the galaxy seem to be perspectively distorted along with it, so I assume you render the stars in the galaxy and then flatten it however you do, but I suggest render the galaxy without the stars first, then blend them on later, otherwise it looks like stars are "painted" onto it. I really like this though ![]() ![]() Roses are #FF0000
Violets are #0000FF All my base are belong to you. |

Thanks Betis! The core is glowing quite a bit already though. Check out some galaxy photography, the core isn't usually so oversaturated like on your pic. The core radius, color and bevel width can also be controlled.
About the distorted stars ... yes they are first rendered and then the perspective is distorted together with them. However I only added the stars as some sort of add-on effect and the perspective view is also only for checking how it looks. optimally you want to render the galaxy undistorted (top-down view) and then do the perspective in Photoshop where you have much more flexibility over it. That was my initial purpose for it anyway. Either way, the stars are quite heavy on the CPU, I still need to optimize that part a little more. |

Thanks for the snippet Betis. I also made some of these, mostly using the bomber component. The problem (as I figured out now) wasn't the stars rendering but the way how they are placed. There was a rather demanding threshold comp to decide for the bomber where to place stars. I simplified that threshold mask and now it's a lot faster.

the bomber is a slow beast. there are lots of ways to make stars much quicker. i dont have my rig right now so cant post any examples or look at how betis did his, but have a look at some of the other star/nebulae filters in the library. they shld help. we were doing starfields in version one long before we had bombers in version 2.
i like your galaxy, btw. i'd suggest a touch of color to your stars, also... at least some. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
