I have Illustrator and have used ImageTrace, as well as some of the Astute Graphics plugins.

There is mismatch on all the edges of the vectorized seamless tile as you might expect. I suspect that creating an image that extends into the repeated area on all 4 sides of the tile and then trimming that back to the tile size after vectorizing might improve the results a bit; however, I know that won't be perfect.

I'm wondering if anyone has a method to get seamless vector versions with minimum effort?

Yeah image trace and other vectorization tools will probably understand the edges of the image as "nothing". Therefore the bezier curves just calculate that as-is.

What I would do instead is to first create the seamlessly tilable image, TILE that in a 3x3 square in photoshop and use that as a source for vectorizing. You can then cut just the part where it's seamlessly tiling with a mask or knife tool in illustrator.

Otherwise it'd be manual effort.

[Edit] Yes you have the right idea with tiling it and vectorizing it.
