What programs do you guys use to view your textures with normal maps? I need a suggestion, I would prefer not to pay money for it, but if push comes to shove it may be worth a paycheck =S
So I guess what I am asking is; any idea on which programs to grab? I dont usually use bump maps. We walk through life building our castles but far to many cease to build the foundations. |

Most of your major 3d apps (Max, Maya, Modo, etc) will allow you to view normal maps on your geometry, so if you have those tools, you're set.
The next step down is probably Crazybump, which is fairly costly. (~$300) But does all sorts of useful things, changing photos into normals, etc. A cheaper, less featured version of Crazybump is Shadermap Pro (which is only $20) http://www.shadermap.renderingsystems.com/sm_pro.php If you want something quick and dirty, check out: the invidia plugins page. You can load in a normal map and just swing the light around. http://developer.nvidia.com/object/ph...ugins.html Another thing you can do for zero dollars is get a shader program like mental mill artist edition, which you can use to put load a normal-map texture and swap out the texture maps to yours. http://www.mentalimages.com/products/...ition.html (It's free, but you have to register to dnld it) Mental mill sort of works like FF. You could also check out blender, which is ideosyncratic and complicated, but does much of what, say, 3ds max does. Oh, and it's free. http://www.blender.org/ |

Just saw this thread...
Not sure whether or not you found what you were looking for, but I thought I'd post anyway. The easiest program to use for just testing textures would probably be Daz Studio. I use it quite a bit when I want to see how my bump/normal maps are looking. Make sure to get Daz Studio 3 as earlier versions don't use normalmaps. http://www.daz3d.com/i/software/daz_studio3?_m=d There is an 'Advanced' version that costs money, but the free version would be perfect for your needs. Check out the beta 2 thread as I just posted a few test renders of some new FF textures I'm working on (pg 27 and 28)... http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...PAGEN_1=27 |
