I bet it has a ton of cool things. I look forward to running it on my next system - that is unless I can afford an Apple.

It was Ronnie when I was younger but when I started college I went with Ron. Some in my family do insist but they know it bugs me.

Is your tracks filter going to post today?

That will be nice. I will not mind about the render time so save all your textures.

Btw, I really like the name. I bet it must have been tempting to just name it '=' or '=='.

One of the first textures I will need will be a muscle texture. The creature I am working on now does not have skin. The muscles and bones will be exposed but each individual muscle will have skin. So I have been looking for a texture that shows ligaments and muscle cells that run a predominant direction as well as two colors of veins that show through translucent skin - both in terms of color and height. I want something different and it does not have to look soft it can have a kind of crusty surface to it. Do you have any of those in your stash?

Let's see, a crusty, veiny, bumpy, translucent skin with two subsurface colors with cells and ligaments - I bet you have four of five of those. smile:)

I have something that needs modifying to suit but would I think [ not crusty mmmm have work on that ] smile:D

It's still too soon. I do not even have enough experience yet to know if I need to do something like cell and ligament bumps with surface maps or geometry. I wonder what goes into making that decision? smile:|
On the other hand if it is something I would like to have it is probably something other people would like to have as well. I designed the plasma ball for my own use and it went HU very quickly - to my surprise.

Interesting. The diffuse is not even close but the bump has potential. The sharp ridges would need to go blah blah blah...
When it's time I will return for a serious consultation. Thanks for the time. smile:)

Wow, that's much better! I especially like the color. I also like how the bumps go out in some areas and in in others. I would if that could be controlled. Are you using Chaffs? I hardly ever work with that.

Hey Carl
It may give your tracks texture a broader appeal if you added a toggle tracks option. Say you wanted to texture a hillside, only one or two rows would need tracks, an option of disabling the tracks would allow you to generate the terrain and the tracks that all tile.
Would it be possible for you to make them cross? Having the tracks extend in a perpendicular direction might be very useful.
Something else I thought might be useful would be an option of blending from one type of terrain to another within a tile. This would allow the hillside to seamlessly go from grass to stone. Maybe this could be done simply with a linear gradient and orthogonal rotates and also with a four square checker with invert for tracks that crossed.
I do not think any of these things would add much render time but the would complicate things a bit. smile:)

I have been looking at XNA. The first thing I noticed it that it's not node based. It also seems to be dedicated mostly to nextgen gaming (apparently another name for thisgen gaming). Here are a couple of Quicktime videos I watched.

Here it is covering your muscle texture. Each of the cylinders are fusion canisters. Each link is held together by plasma (not shown). It will look much cooler when you can see the three tiny lightning bolts between each link. smile8) Of course the plasma will only be visible when the suit is off. When it is in its cloaking mode there will be no need to vent plasma.

Practically anything that gets ran through twenty blend components is going to be unique. smile:D Not to mention slow.

I just watched the special features of 'The Thing'. It was a walkthrough with John Carpenter and Curt Russell. It was very interesting. That movie is much older than I remembered. For the time the graphics were not so bad. There was practically no cg back then. I really like the special features when the director chats about the movie while watching it.

They are FF. I know next to nothing about XNA. Can that sort of thing be done with XNA? The training DVD I checked out was titled something like Real-time Shaders with XNA. Real time in cg usually translates to crappy. Imagine the processing power it would take to render the above texture samples in real time. smile:(

Even Star Wars! Remember what a big deal it was when it came out - I was fifteen. smile:D I still have a box of Star Wars magazines, posters and comic books somewhere.
Carpenter and Russel talk about how The Thing was released at the same time as ET and was mostly overshadowed by it - I just hated ET. I was so taken in by Alien and Blade Runner that when I saw The Thing I did not enjoy it as much as I should have.

I liked the "Alien" movies and "Blade Runner" when they came out too.....but although some of the special effects (space ship backdrop, etc) were lacking, I really liked "The Thing" for the plot, characters, human nature, etc..... smile:)

Blade Runner has a new director's cut released BTW.....
