After performing some shaman rituals we've devised a workaround that may allow you to run Filter Forge under CS5 or Photoshop Elements or another unsupported host app in Mac OS X:
- make sure that Filter Forge or your host app is not running;
- copy the entire 'Filter Forge 2' folder from Applications to Applications/Photoshop/Plugins/Filters or to the Plugins/Filters folder of your host;
- delete the filterforge2-ppc.plugin file if you've got an Intel-based Mac (if you have a PPC Mac, skip this step).
- run your host. The host must be a 32-bit application. Filter Forge should show up in the Filters menu.
For Filter Forge 1.0 installations, the procedure is the same except the 'Filter Forge' folder name and the filterforge-ppc.plugin file name.
All your filters, settings etc will be equally available in the plugin mode as well as in the standalone mode.
Please let us know if this magic works or doesn't work for you!

The workaround worked for me - I'm running Photoshop CS5 in 32bit mode since Alienskin plugins aren't supported in 64bit mode yet.

I'm in Photoshop CS5, Mac OS 10.5.8 and feeling kinda dense. This should show up under filters, right? It's not there at all as near as I can tell...
(it's working fine as a stand alone)

I just purchased Filter Forge and am having the same problem as droderick. I have installed FF in my CS5/plugins/filters folder exactly as suggested in the workaround. The program works as a standalone and I've re-installed my old copy of CS4 (it works fine there), but Filter Forge doesn't show up at all in my CS5 filters menu. I tried changing to 32-bit under "Mode" but that doesn't help. (If that's the wrong place to set the preference, I'd appreciate any pointers.) What am I missing here? Filter Forge appears to be a powerful and interesting plug-in but I can't get out of the starting gate in CS5.
Modified: Okay, was able to get it to work. No reply necessary.

I was embarrassed to ask where to find the 32-bit selection was (I couldn't find it in preferences) but finally checked out the readme that came with the app and found it by selecting "Get Info" on the application itself.
And now FIlter Forge works! So, thanks!

Hello all.
Adobe just sent out an update for PS (for handling cs4 screens was the description). When I restarted PS FF and FF2 no longer showed up under filters. I just did the work around again, and restarted PS, but still FF and FF2 do not show under the filters menu. Is anyone else having this problem?? I am working a time sensitive project and need to get back up and running as soon as I can.
Thanks
Jeff
