I purchased the filter library DVD when I bought Filter Forge. I thought I could access the same filters on the DVD that are online but they would load faster. I don't know how to access the library on the DVD. Need help. Jim

On the DVD there is a folder named FilterForge, in that a folder named System, and in that a folder named Library (which contains all filter at that date).

In the Readme_Mac.txt file, the following text is hidden...

To import the filter library backup to Filter Forge, please copy the 'Filter Forge' folder from the backup CD to 'HD/Users/Your_User_Name/Library/Application Support' and click 'Replace' when asked for confirmation.

I suggest you browse on the webserver, and have the DVD as backup incase you HD dies, internet fails and you need to get running, as the filters on the web is more updated.

cheers,
/ Totte

Totte, many thanks for info. It helped. Once I've loaded the filter library as instructed, how do I access it when I'm using Filter Forge? I assume if I use the filter library loaded on my HD, it will be faster than using online library. Is that correct. Again, thanks, Havalah

You should be able to browse it with FF (looking through available filters) as you would have all filters in FilterForge by now. Just remember to quit FF and start it up again after you made the copy, otherwise it will not find the new entries.

havalah, the actual time to apply the filter won't decrease. The advantage is that you don't need to connect to our website and download every filter before starting to use it.

I followed the instructions in the correspondence above and was not successful after several attempts to utilize the DVD library. It disallowed me to open forge alone nor would it open by using the photoshop route. I lost all my downloaded filters by replacing the previous existing folder in app. support!! Not happy. The only way I was capable of using forge again was to remove the files from the Disc and start over. Why did I spend for the back up disc??

First, the "backup DVD" is just that.
The only reason to use it is if you want every filter available at the time your DVD was created installed in your system.
I have it for two reasosn only. First, if the FilterForge server gets nuked, my Drive get nuked and my Time machine drive get nuke. Second, to show the accountant that I have bought a physical "DVD", as sometimes Swedish Tax ministry has hard times to understand concept of download purchases of software, they are so 1980:ish in their thinking.

The instructions will work, but they will replace the whole FF settings directory, where you own and your downloaded files are.

What I wrote above still stands "I suggest you browse on the webserver, and have the DVD as backup incase you HD dies...". As the DVD is only as up to date as it was when it was manufactured, and the library is a living organism, powered by the many filter weavers, who make new and updated filters.

Just as a head's up, I did the install procedure for the library backup as described in the readme. While FF2 appears to hang, if you let it sit for a few minutes, it _will_ eventually come up.

I just think that having to update itself to deal with thousands of new filters forces so much processing that it takes FF2 some time to build its data structures. The first time after following the readme instructions, I thought it had hung and killed it, but the second time I went and got some coffee and left it running (after looking at what it was doing via ActivityMonitor sampling, and realizing it was just processing a LOT of info) and it came up after about 3 minutes. Once it's processed all the library plugins in the library backup, the UI appears and it functions normally (if a bit sluggishly in the library browser).

Subsequent launches come up within seconds as you'd normally expect. I'm still having problems getting it to work with CS5, so can't comment to what happens in that configuration yet.

Filter Forge starts up really slow if you have the whole library "installed" - I did a full download once, but I had to delete them again to get acceptable start up performance
