After I downloaded the new version of Filter Forge 9 the Photoshop plugin returns a "Program Error" message and doesn't work. My workflow needs Filter Forge to run from within Photoshop as it did in the past but I've not been successful in making it work. I'm running Photoshop 21.2.2 on Mac OS 10.15.6 and the plug-in is in the plug-in folder. Other plugins that I use, such as the Nik suite and Portrait Pro still work fine as plug ins.

If the problem happened after you updated the Photoshop to latest version, I know that you can ALSO install previous older versions of Photoshop in your subscription, so you could have filter forge on that version until a fix for the newest version is available
here is how to do it |

Thanks for the thought. The plug in worked perfectly with the current Photoshop until I updated to the latest version of Filter Forge 9 which was necessary in order to download new filters.

If it did work before with your current version of Photoshop and now it does not work, then it must be something with FF update.
Have you tried to use FF version 10 with Photoshop? Do you have also FF 8 to test it? I know that all the FF 9 filters will not work, but maybe can help in some way. |

I tried FF version 10 and the problem persists. All was good till the second version of FF version 9 at which point it won't work from within Photoshop.

FWIW I tried FF 10 and it launched fine with Photoshop 21.2.3 just today... FF 9 does not.
I suspect a fix will show up shortly. |

LOL, when I contact to FF asking me to buy version 10. How is that possible. I Just bought version 9 on April and now it is not working anymore with Photoshop. When i try to report to your guys to fix the error, you ask me to install version 10 Beta which i need to buy. Ridiculous ! I do not tink Filter Forge is trustworthy company anymore. You guys are chasing for money and pusshing people to spend. I am entilte to get the fix rather than buying new version.

After months there is still no fix for this and Photoshop has been updated four times during the problem. When are the Filter Forge folks going to address this issue that ruins an effective work flow. And yes, the problem persists in FF 10.

Solution to Photoshop Plug-in fail on Mac. This is copied from user M_L on another of this forum's posts. I tried this using Mac OS Catalina, FF 9, and PS 2020 and PS 2021 and it worked for me (Anvil Hammer).
_______ Shut down Photoshop In Finder, open: Applications > Filter Forge 9 Make an alias of 'Filter Forge 9 universal.plugin' In another Finder window, open: Applications > Adobe Photoshop 2021 > Plug-ins Copy alias to the Photoshop Plug-ins folder (do not actually copy the plugin - it must be an alias!) ← Will ask you for admin privs |

Hey Anvil Hammer, Thanks buddy. it is working now. Amazing tips. Untrustworthy FilterForge people just want the money. No service for their own issue. You save a lot of money.! thanks. |

Not sure how useful this will be for power users, but this worked for me... I really haven’t had any luck so far using FF Beta 10 with the newest Photoshop release. I am on Mac OS Big Sur, 11.0.1 and using Photoshop 2021, 22.0.1 and FF Beta 10, 10.004 and have tried using the Alias trick without success. I did, however, develop a workaround that uses copy/paste that allows me to work, independent of any issues with any software. It’s not as slick as using FF as a plug-in, but when it’s simply not working, you’ve got to try something else.
1 - open both programs (Photoshop and FF) 2 - go to the layer you want to manipulate, select all, then copy the Photoshop layer 3 - paste the Photoshop layer into FF 4 - manipulate the image in FF 5 - when you like the result, go to the FF menu bar at the top and choose View - Preview Size - Actual wait for the preview to finish generating 6 - when it’s finished, go to the FF menu bar and choose Edit - Copy Image 7 - go to Photoshop and paste the new image (Photoshop will generate a new layer for the pasted image) Like I say, it’s not as slick as using FF as a plug-in, but this method has allowed me to keep working with both packages. |
