I further tested out what you meant by your fix above, but I do not think that it is sufficient for OS X users. Right now the equivalent of the "DEL" key must be pressed to trigger that method. This means pressing the "delete" key to the right of the +/= key (US Layout) will not work. In addition, it also means laptop users must press fn+delete to get this to work.
In most use conditions, users are simply used to pressing delete next to the +/= key OR the "real" DEL key to get that same thing to happen in a UI case.
Sorry I'm a stickler, but it can only make for better user experience!
