I just downloaded the latest version of FF.
The seamless tiling checkbox is gray and nothing can be made seamless.
The override settings are on automatic.

How can I use the seamless option again?

I was wondering the same thing also. I would really like to have it back.

Strange, I switch from simple filter to surface and the seamless option and preview were okay again.

Everything works perfectly fine on my PC -- the Seamless Tiling checkbox is enabled both for library filters and for newly-created filters in the Editor (unless they use any of the new non-seamless components such as Rotate, Scale or Free Gradient).

Could you describe the situation step-by-step, in maximum detail possible?

(P.S. I deleted MysticBlueRaven's post in the announce thread -- let's discuss the problem here.)

Interestingly, the mere presence of a non-seamless component in the Filter Editor disables Seamless Tiling. This is true even if the non-seamless component is NOT connected to the filter tree in any way. Is this intentional?

Yes, this is correct.

The problem is that currently the preview mode (seamless or not) is determined for all components in the filter -- the preview can't be seamless for one component and non-seamless for another. If we detect the mode based solely on the subtree connected to the Result, the non-seamless components like Free Gradient may end up being previewed in seamless mode, which would give weird results.

Hmmm. How about an informative balloon pop-up to notify the user that seamless tiling has been globally disabled? That could help to avoid some confusion.

That's exactly what I'm thinking about at the moment.

On second thought, I'm not sure whether making Seamless Tiling and Non-Seamless Tiling mutually exclusive is the end-all-be-all solution.

Take my filter Shark Tank!, for example: Using the Free Gradient it is now perfectly possible to fix the gradient issue discussed in the filter's comment thread. Yet it comes with a caveat: The drops don't tile seamlessly anymore.

This is but one of many cases that I could imagine where it would actually be desireable to mix seamless and non-seamless components, were it possible.

how about a seamless free gradient and a non seamless free gradient, dilla? (that's probably a really stupid suggestion on my part, but what the hell smile;) )

Why only take one finger when you can take both hands, eh!?

smile:dgrin:

Ultimately, we'd need the ability to freely mix seamless and non-seamless components! This may be something for beyond v2, however.

inch and a mile, ya know smile:)

yeah, i've had an exception to the stress placed on seamless for a while. a mix would be really nice. i've never quite figured out why the effect filters were always put in seamless mode when you uploaded a filter. and i've still got a number of filters that need converting to non-square routines. but, that's a different matter.

time to go play smile:)
