I'm trying to run FF5 under Windows XP service pack 3. It installed correctly without any errors, but it will not run. What am I missing here? The download page says windows XP is compatible.

Yeah, I don't understand it. I have FF4 installed on the same machine and it runs without any problems, but FF5 will not even open. I'm hoping someone from FF can jump in, maybe with some kind of debug switch (?) so we can track down why this is happening.

It runs on our test XP machine as well.
primitivedesign, what error message do you get?

I don't get *any* error message. When I double-click the FF icon, absolutely nothing happens. It's as though I never clicked the icon.

FF 4.014 runs perfectly in safe mode.
FF 5 does not run in safe mode.

I'm running out of ideas what can cause this behavior. Do you use Windows XP on a physical machine or in a virtual environment like VirtualBox ?

It's running inside a virtual machine, the exact same virtual machine installation that I've been using since Filter Forge v2.x, v3.x, and v4.x, all of which worked perfectly well.
It's running inside VirtualBox under a Debian Linux host. I already tried adding additional processor cores (normally has 2 cores dedicated), additional video memory to the maximum, etc. but nothing had any effect.

Unfortunately we don't support virtual environments.
You can request a refund if you don't use FF on a physical machine.

Is this something new? Because every version prior to 5 has worked.
And why would it allow the installation to go to completion without any error messages or warnings?

We have never supported virtual environments, though "not supported" is not always equal to "not working". This seems to be your case. Sorry to disappoint you but support for VMs is not planned.
