I'm looking for a sunset filter it can be filter forge or any photoshop or stand-alone filter/plugin from any company that can run on a windows desktop pc.
It needs to change the white/gray clouds of a midday or afternoon photo into the yellow, orange, reds, magenta progression of colors that typically show up as the day ends in a dramatic sunset. The sun itself can be in or out of view. Here's why I want this. I have clouds in my region called lenticular clouds that form during the day making wonderful shapes. The best lighting for those is the last light sunset colors. Last winter I went out 5 times to catch the shapes and lighting. 4 of those 5 times the last light got blocked by storm clouds to the far west. So the cloud shapes were amazing but the colors were missing. I tried an FF filter here called "Sunset V" but it's not cutting it. I was thinking of something more like a modified version of the Changing Seasons filter than Rachel recently posted might be the way to go. I know this forum is very filter aware. Any suggestions. Here's the basic colors I'm after. ![]() |

Luminar 4 has a sky replacement routine that works quite well and requires no masking. Once changed, it also has lots of modification sliders as well as another routine for adding sun rays.

Hi Sign Guy. I have some software to swap skys. But I'm trying to keep my clouds and sky and shift change the colors of them from white/gray to the multi colors shown.

Of course you knew I'd weigh in on this... one of the difficulties with filters of this type is similarities between the foreground (what you want to change) and the background (areas you want left alone). I am going to take your sample and see what I can do, this one is trickier than the last one.
UPDATE: I can't figure out a decent remapping of the B&W to color. The gradients on real sunsets are not easy to reproduce. Also, holidays aren't always the best. Math meets art meets psychedelia. |

Thanks for taking a look at it Rachel. Since it's the holidays I was not even expecting a reply at all.
