Hi,
since I cannot find the slightest bit of info about this anywhere ...

On how many machines am I allowed to install Filter Forge (Pro Edition) with one license?

Thanks!

you need a separate license for each computer. Quoting the EULA, p. 2.1:

Unless otherwise specifically provided under valid invoicing, purchase order or licensing terms accepted by Licensor in writing (e.g. trial, beta, or multiple user license as specified in a contemporaneous purchase order or agreement) granted by the Licensor upon registration of the Product (online or otherwise as provided by Licensor), Licensee is granted a non-exclusive and non-transferable license to Operate one (1) copy of the specified major version of the Product by one user account in the operating system (“User”) during the Term of this Agreement on one Client Device provided that if multiple or volume License is purchased, the number of the Client Devices and the number of permitted users shall be as provided and permitted by invoicing terms or applicable terms and conditions set forth on the Licensor’s website www.filterforge.com at the time of purchase of the License.

Generally, such questions are best adressed to tech support:

Vladimir...I trust that you and your team DO know that your present concept of 1 machine with 1 license is very archaic and out of touch with today's technical reality...
Example: Office 365, Adobe CSS, Topaz, etc, etc.
Maybe someday, Filter Forge should consider, as Adobe and Topaz, 2 machines, with 1 license.
Thank you.

I'm using a few apps that use web based licensing, that allow installation on multiple computers without the hassle of deactivating and reactivating a license when switching to a different computer. This is convenient, but obviously requires an internet connection.

I'm sure this adds complexity/expense for the developer, so perhaps its not cost effective for a smaller user base.

Waiting for the 80% discounted offering is the best option at this point to obtain licensing for another computer. Or, one could develop and submit filters to get a free license https://www.filterforge.com/more/freecopy.html

Below my opinion of fair use of licenses

If a computer is missing electric power it is not a computer. If an address bus pin of the processor is making poor contact the whole thing is not a computer.

If a computer is turned on and certain 'installed' software is not executed the 'installed' data is just an unused potential source of data: same as having 16 copies of Filter Forge installers in a download folder.

Two computers both running Filter Forge using the same license is a different story.
Grey area though: a license owner can only operate one computer at a time and people can physically not multi-task: usage is limited to periodically switching between computers meaning one software is not used while the other is, if any at all.

Two computers running Filter Forge using the same license operated by two persons means one user is violating the user license. Or both persons are violating the user license if none of both persons own the license.

Again an issue: if one person owning a Filter Forge license is using Filter Forge on a friend's or colleage's computer who also has a Filter Forge licence I would say any license owner is allowed to run Filter Forge anywhere anytime as long as the license owner sticks to only using Filter Forge VERSIONS that correlate with the license he is owning.

All hard to police but this is fair definition of a license to use.

However, to make enforcing way easier manageable the definition of a license usually is stripped down severely.

Bottom line is the user ACCEPTED the stripped down definition of the 'license' before purchase and confirmed this during installation of the software. This means in case of using Filter Forge you may only install the software on a single computer and use it on that particular computer. For the sake of proof of liability I assume employees of Filter Forge, Inc. never violate the restricted license in their own life either like using Filter Forge on a friend's or colleage's computer to show the actual licence owner something how to do or see what happens if this is done smile:-p
