Hi FF-team,

there was a program in the beginning of FF, where you offered a free FF-license
when testing and contributing to the FF-filters.
I won a free licenses - that was valid for ff-1.0 and had to request a new one
for ff-2.0 beta as the first one was no longer valid.

Now, that FF-2.0 is out I experience that the license key is not valid any more?

So - is the agreement over or do I get a key for FF-2.0 ?

I find it very annoying always to ask for a new key when a new version is out and
the older is outdated and doesnt work any more!

Thanks!

regards,
rilos

rilos,

i'm not an FF employee, so take this as such, but your original key for version 1 is only valid for version 1. version 2 was a MAJOR upgrade and not a minor update. your original key for v1 shld still work for v1. if you've installed the demo version of v2 your v1 copy shld still work. i dont believe v2 overwrites v1. it didnt on my machines. if you want free UPGRADES for life, you have to earn more HU's and points to get that reward. that would give you free UPGRADES for every new version that comes out.

if you compare this with something like photoshop, you'll see that FF is very similar in this policy. most major software programs cost when a major upgrade happens. it's usually done at a reduced rate for buying completely new, but it almost always costs something.

hope that helps.

//Thank you Craig for your help with answering the questions I'm in charge for smile;)

Rilos, Kraellin is correct. You received a permanent key for Filter Forge 1.0. The key is not outdated, the version 1.0 still works and can be downloaded from the download page (scroll down to the 'Latest Maintenance Update to Filter Forge 1.0' section).

So, I understand it right, my formerly earned key is not any more valid for
the actual rel. 2.0 of FF?

This is a little disappointing, as they told me I would get a key for 2.0 as well -
and I got one for 2.0 beta (so I understood the mail with the license key for 2.0 beta).

So I deinstalled FF1.0 long time ago, and now have 2.0 installed as a trial.

Would be really disappointing to hear that I am not able to use it any more, esp.
as most new filters are 2.0 and wont work on 1.0.

Did you change anything in the agreements on the reward system compared to the former state?

I contributed in the belief to get a lifetime running version - and of course it should work with all the new filters.

HUs are "High Usage" filters, if you make great filters that people actually use, you will get rewarded.

Hi ronjonnie,

thank you - will give it a try! smile;)

I had already earned a HU-Point and got my license for that.

Unfortunately it doesnt work on FF 2.0

So - seems I have to request it every new release and pray
that I get a new license...

Thanks all!
