Hi There,
Well finally I've coughed up some coin to get FF standard edition and I opened it, DL some filters to play around, played with some sliders, jumped into filter editor to get a feel for the architecture and kind of hit a brick wall. Being rather proactive, I poked around the help files and found myself scratching my head. Also tried to search youtube etc for a some tutorials, but they are either super basic (how to open the program/how to DL a filter) or too advanced for me. My question is: Can anyone recommend some links to sites or video's that are semi-noobish detailing how to create your own filters and how the filter components work? I would be uber grateful to all you FF guru's for the head's up. Cheers, Simosar |

I'd also take a look around inside filters to get a grasp.
Not to toot my own horn, but I arrange almost all my filters so that as few of the connecting lines overlap. This helps things be a bit more intuitive. I learned most by disconnecting and reconnecting/fiddling with existing filters to understand how things work. Good luck! |

I have used FF to adjust 4 images. I hope to use it mostly for portraiture. I also have come to a brick wall in the learning curve. A few comments.
1) It seems that there are lots of tutorials for developers and very few for users. Users are the customers I would think. I would like to see lots (or at least more) of tutorials showing results of using filters and how the effect was created. Preferably on Youtube. 2) I don't know how one uses more than one filter. Do you have to take it back into PS each time? |

Hey topazdan,
There isn't much to know when it comes to applying effect filters, you can either just click on a preset that you like and/or tweak it with what ever controls the author has added [ under the setting tab ], alternatively you if you like the preset result that you got but it not quite right, you can use the variation slider. You can also click the random button, which can be fun because you may get some unusual or perfect results. If the filter has a Lighting tab, play around with sliders, grab and rotate the HRI sphere, click the band around the sphere to bring up the Ambiance controls. By clicking and sliding around all these control you see what effect it has on your image. When you have the desired result you can save the settings as a preset [click the arrow on the Preset tab > Add Preset ] to apply to another image later. You can only apply one effect at a time to a layer, FF is not a smart filter and doesn't render to a new layer. You'll find with a bit of experimenting with the control you'll master it pretty quickly, enjoy the ride ![]() |

Thanks for the quick response. Your information was useful. Q. Is there a library of examples of work done by others using the filters? That would save alot of time in experimenting since you have 8000+ filters. Dan |

I believe you’re right! It would be great if the filters would be accompanied by some documentation, if not tutorials of their own (at least the Heavy Filters). I mean, look at the ‘Watercolor Painting’ filter tutorial! The ‘Watercolor Venice’ is breath-taking. Till this, hearing about ‘Venice’ made me think about “Casino Royale†and Caterina Murino. Now I’m thinking about “Watercolor Venice†and Kochubey. And I believe you may be right again: taking into account the vivacity of the FF server, Youtube might be a better option! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ It's amazing what you can do with Photoshop these days. I installed your HDRI filter. Tried it. I like the results but I don't quite see an HDR result. I tried to look at the vid. It wants me to download a 76MB video to watch it. Could that be correct? I really do not want to be putting these large videos on my HD.

Well you can read the comments on that filter here
http://www.filterforge.com/forum/read...ssage48294 Its more of a snippet to show a certain effect.....The video itself shows how to create this filter from scratch..It walks you through every step to building this filter..Also shows you other things as well about the FF UI...It is a 30 minute video and is in good quality....
