At my place I can 3000 posts per thread. I have had my message forums now for almost 8 years.

No, it works really well. Plus I gave everyone in the forum their own folders and they can add new threads when they want. Some have art threads which is nice.

When the doc said I could have a heart attack at any time I closed the main forum and only my closest friends are in the private forum. I have another forum, but it's not for posting in. I find stuff and post it there and other forum owners come in and get the stuff for their places.

I don't have many rules in my forum, mainly just don't be mean.

Yeah Steve, you're a real ogre. I'm talking about people treating other people like dirt. You have never done that...well, not that I'm aware of anyway.

Oh, and no posting porn. Ok, there is a really old guy in my forum that forgets that rule...often...but we just delete them and blame it on the server.

i'd post more of the stuff from retouch here, but a lot of what i work on is on other folk's originals and always a bit of a hassle to get permissions to post other places. i need some kind of global permission thing where i wouldnt have to ask any more

i also need a gallery/forum/blog/somewhere where i could post all of my stuff, including animations, full, high res stuff and all the odd bits and pieces i've got all over the web. something permanent with no limits. that's why i put a server on my home machine. i could just drag and drop everything in there. i have a static ip number (permanent address on the web), so a home server was nice...until the computer blew up ah, the joys of being your own admin.

The tintype restoration was really well done. My Great Grandmother had some of those on the mantleplace. I don't don't which family member stole them out of the house when she and my Grandmother died.

thanks, ahimsa. i have five more of those to do yet... or four. i forget. they're already scanned into the computer; just waiting for me to get started. it's quite time consuming, but also quite relaxing. i like black and white restorations. if you ever want those tintypes (if found) restored, let me know.

As for your server, I'd need to understand more about how something like that works and what exactly would you use it for. I really have no idea, other than I new someone that had his own email setup and gave me a free account once

jan, it's fairly simple software. it basically allowed me to post things on my machine so that others could see and get things. i used a simple netscape web site creator thing for the web site portion. that ran within the server also. so, i effectively had my own site on the web right at home. very handy.

i dont really know html very well. most of the web pages i did were just drag and drop type actions. the netscape stuff made that part pretty easy. and the server basically just sets up a portal into certain areas of my harddrive that i designated. it would probably be easier and more secure to do on a linux install, but i wasnt interested in doing another linux partition and install right now. the windows type was done mostly so folks on retouch could see some of the stuff i couldnt post over there.

now THAT'S a great outlook, ahimsa. and may it last for 30 more
