Filter Forge allows you to use it in two ways, standalone and as a plugin of a host software
Each one has it's own advantages and disadvantages List of software supported as host for using FF as a plugin Photoshop is not the only host software if you are using Windows OS There is this other thread to know about the differences between the two What are the differences between using FF as standalone and as plugin? |

If anybody has used software besides PhotoShop with FF, could they share their experiences? I frequently gets ads for Serif PhotoPlus cheap and might buy it if it works well with FF. I used to use Paint Shop Pro and probably would be comfortable with the interface (depending on how much it has changed in the last decade or so), if it works well.

I hadn't heard of Ulead PhotoImpact. It seems to now be a Corel product and only costs $30, but now it is version X3. Does the new version work with FF?

I can definitely recommend PhotoPlus: it has all the Photoshop functionality except some most advanced features, but it's cheaper, faster and reliably works with Filter Forge.
note: since Serif are our long-time partners the above opinion may be biased but it is sincere ![]()
I'm afraid not, there are certain technical issues with adding support for PhotoImpact X3. |

I have been working with FF4.0 inside Paintshop Pro X7 for one and half years now (Win 8.1, 64bit). Filterforge 4.0 usually worked very well in this environment. I did have some occasional crashes, where I could never figure out why, but these happened seldom enough to not disturb too much. The great feature I discovered (and I heard that this is not working in other applications, even Photoshop?) is that Filterforge in my environment even works on single layers, which is highly appreciated. |

I wonder why is told that FF is only a photoshop plugin when it really has many other hosts available at least in windows, some people that do not have Photoshop may think that they can not use FF because they do not have it, and do not know that there are other possible hosts AND that FF has also a standalone version
Also do not understand why in Windows it has many hosts, and the same software that is also available in Mac, is NOT compatible as host? Adobe Photoshop Elements Affinity Photo Color Photo Paint 2020 all these 3 are available for Mac but not shown below
