Sorry, still have problem with transparency

I am sorry but I need to ask about transparency, since it seem it is not working for me. I ve read most of posts here but still: for example Cartoon Eyes... I have lifesaver picture and over it is filter´s eyes. Now ho to save it so only the eyes will be on transparent layer? If I save it as png, I ve got picture of lifesaver WITH the eyes over it. If I choose New picture, there is option to choose filling color, but there is no transparency option. So I am totaly confused... Can anybody help?

OK find some way, but i am not sure if it is correct ... to render it over blank transparent image and save it as png... right?

(1) Create a new image in FF, set background color to black with 0% opacity
(2) Render filter
(3) Save image
