----Wow, really ? I emailed ya'll about it like I dunno 8 or 12 months ago when I first noticed it was all messed up. The filters simply do not appear in order of popularity, thusly, the list is completely fuxxored for what it is supposed to be.

The position of a filter in this list is determined by a complex formula, something like USAGE_RANK * log(NUMBER_OF_DOWNLOADS) / FILTER_AGE or similar.

----That formula epic failz then. I could see sticking new filters in the *average usage* section, even at the beginning until the usual 98% of them fall off to low usage. But to put them on the very first page ?! That's just dumb, and makes FF look really really bad, as though those (again, 98% on average) crappy filters are the best of the best. And no, I didn't go to business school, I just like to point out retarded crap ha-ha.

If that algorithm's accurate then it looks pretty good, though looking at the most popular list it seems like it's quite heavily biasing the most recent filters. I think it'd be a helpful change to make the formula perform a clamp on the filter age so that filters don't start dropping off in popularity until they're (say) six months old. That way the last six month's most popular filters would be fairly accurate.
By the way jffe, what's with the language? "Epic failz" and "point out retarded crap" and "fuxxored"? I can imagine why the formula hasn't been updated -- if I received an email worded like that it'd hit the bottom of my deleted items bin so fast that the author would feel it on the other end of the internet.

----Right, they shouldn't fix it cause I used goofy innernetz wording to tell them it's making them look bad, and more relevant to me and the users - doesn't do what it's supposed to do. This isn't my day job, FF isn't my boss, I don't have to watch what I say or how I say it, and I didn't call anyone in particular out this time, so no worries. Feel free to ignore me, FF does.

I'm not saying they shouldn't fix it, I'm saying you're going about telling them the wrong way.
It's inconsiderate when you're talking to someone directly to tell them that their work is "fuxxored", "retarded crap", and "epic failz". You could always say it's "apparently broken", "seemingly inconsistent" and "against the logic I would use". Or if you want to use internet speak, "it makes lolcats cry", or whatever -- just not something directly insulting.

The Most Popular feature is pretty useless. Filters with only 30 downloads are mixed in with filters that have thousands of downloads, apparently only because they are new.
