What will happen when FF 4.0 is released on 2013 and will not have any kind of GPU and will not have any kind of render engine optimization to make it faster and be the same slow as it is now?

How will keep FF standing against other companies in the future?

Will the competing companies that WILL care to release much faster and better sofware for Photoshop or standlalone make a damage to Filter Forge ?

(this is a long post to express my point of view of the wrong road I think that FF is taking, sorry, read it at your own will.)

After many threads that may seem that I am AGAINST the FF Inc. company and making complains against them, you may think probably and possibly think that I am bad person doing this, but I do it because I want and wish the best for FF and that it goes in the same right way as other competing software companies, and that FF could keep growing and be more famous each time.

WHY I am doing all this?

Because I love Filter Forge and like it much BUT when I see what the other Photoshop plugin companies plans are for the future, and what other companies that could be a compettition for FF will be making for 2012-2013 I feel the fear that Filter Forge will be in danger of loosing market and will be left behind and loose users and will be selling less and get less profits.

Despite all the things I have said, I like VERY much Filter Forge and is really a great and awesome software and do not want that for the big problems that it STILL have and that the FF Inc. company does not want to solve or make anything about it, could be in danger of not advancing more and be left behind as JUST as hobbyist thing and not be used by the professional users, and GROW in the graphic market instead of loosing more.

BUT after seen the news that in APRIL 2012 WILL SEE THE RELEASE OF A NEW MUCH BETTER SOFTWARE THAT COULD DAMAGE FF (see more at the end) I feel bad that FF can compete in the same way as other companies.

I fear and feel like Filter Forge could enter in the Guiness world of records as the company with the slowest graphic software available for Photoshop OR as a standalone software for applying filters to photos (which the lowest standard is about 10 megapixel = about 3648 x 2736).

AND after GMM have confirmed that FF 4.0 will NOT have any GPU acceleration I feel that FF will be going the wrong way.

I can confirm there are no plans for GPU acceleration for Filter Forge 4.0

And perhaps FF INc. could also optimize the FF render engine in some other way without using GPU but there is still NO answer about this that I have already asked here

Is FF Inc. making something for FF 4.0 to have a FASTER render engine?

FF CAN´T BE ORIENTED AND PRETEND TO BE USED BY PROFESSIONALS THIS WAY

Filter Forge is a great software, so why can´t this be marketed and promoted to be used by Professional companies ?

Well as it is now, is not possible because of bad things that it still have that overshadow, hinder and obstruct all the very good things it has.

You can´t pretend that more professionals would like and enjoy using FF when is slow at previewing and rendering the results.

Also the bad and great problem of unmanageable library that could have thousands of filters without any kind of customization or possible organization

Adobe has the plans of making their own "Filter Forge" with Pixel Bender engine that has GPU optim ization and renders and previews in Realtime

APRIL 2012 WILL SEE THE RELEASE OF A NEW MUCH BETTER SOFTWARE THAT COULD DAMAGE FF

I already know that in April 2012 will be released version 3 of a software that it´s main thing is to be able to apply artistic filters and photo effects to photos, and already have inside more than 400 filters, and they are very well organized and easy to find.

What has been the MAIN and PRIORITY thing that they have been working on from version 2 ?

Well, they say it will be MUCH FASTER, and MUCH easier to change the settings and have the results for the preview much confortable and usable, and have optimized much the software to higher resolutions, because even the home users are using as standard 10 megapixel photos, and companies and professionals much more that have between 16 and 24 Megapixel, and this are things that FF have a great problem with.

Also the other point is that they have rearranged all the filters and now are much easier to use and find, because they think that having more than 400 filters is A LOT and they wanted to make the best for the user.

If they think 400 is a lot, imagine what THOUSANDS of filters like FF have ?

Hi SpaceRay,
I'm a brand new FF user looking around in the Forums, saving topics for later review, etc. First thank you (I've seen you're a regular contributor!), I'm still on my way learning FF, call it the steeper part of the curve. Alas.
I've bumped into this post and, well, we can now rest safely - Adobe did kill PixelBender (as it's been doing with other technologies - suddenly). Companies like PSKiss has had some troubles, I guess.
There was, years ago, a (finnish I guess) company that had a node base software implementing PB kernels, but they were targeted to video, and apparently less interested in PS - they released a beta supporting it. I can't remember the name, though!

Davide, I think it was SourceBinder that had something like that back in 2009. SourceBinder itself does exist, that PixelBender Kernel editing is probably gone.

Man, back almost a year ago I remember this whole surge in these threads haha. Brings memories back already! I can see where there were concerns. "Slow" rendering, a couple fatal bugs... still kinda looming around but it's calmed down a lot since. I've written several times in regard to slow renders, just explaining the matter and comparing them between other programs. Most often sharing my own experience with computationally-heavy programs but in all fairness they came out mildly biased. They can be read everywhere, just kinda buried.

In the end, FilterForge really has nothing to worry about in regards to competition really. There are only a handful of software like this (at this point) and I don't really see anything that gets near what FilterForge can do and the community it fostered. I'm surprised a software-specific forum is this active. They're typically desolate and boring. Although this is one of those places where I keep a daily eye on because there's always something here that either interests me or *ahem* bothers me.

Either way, there's nothing to fear really. I think FilterForge is doing just fine.
