Tonight I was going to get a new filter from the library, 'Polished Stone', and it's a v1.0 filter, so my copy of 4.0 should have downloaded it without a problem.
However, instead of downloading the filter to my full copy (not a trial) of FF 4.0, it displays this message and does not download the filter: 'To open library filters, you must have a newer version of Filter Forge. Update now?'. What's going on here? I know this is a full version, have had it about exactly three months. It is not a good sign regarding the software if an important, core feature fails to work after only three months and it asks someone to upgrade. Sure I can't use v5.0 filters, but as long as I own v4.0, I should be able to download to my copy ANY filter that is compatible with my version, from 1.0 to 4.0. |

Do not worry, you do not need to upgrade to FF 5
You need to update FF to the latest FF 4 version I think that if you click on ok it will download the latest version |

Thanks for the response. Is that what this will do then when I click 'Yes'? It didn't say that it was a new version of FF4 in the dialog box, that sure would have helped.

YES, just click on yes, and it will download the latest version
i already know that it may be confusing and I have already told to change it, but has not been changed |

There is a difference between VERSION and UPGRADE, as version is always whitin the same version number you already have, if it would mean that you would need FF 5, it would put that you need to upgrade (possibly as I do not remember what is the message)
This a common problem and you are not the first one, and I was like you that it happened to me too If there is a new updated version you are not allowed to download any new filter until you update free to that version |

I'm rendering a texture now but will run the updates to 4.0 right after so I can be sure on this, this was the first time since I got FF that they updated the software for bug fixes, etc., that is what may be going on here after all.

I just got my notice that I need to upgrade, yet again, but this time something awful happened. Filter Forge 4 Pro did not find my filter library after upgrading.
There are no filters at all in it when I open it. Just happened, it's always found it before. My filters are there in Users/me/appdata/roaming/filter forge 4 (does not say pro) My Filter Forge 5 standard works fine. How can I tell FF to find my filter library? |

NGriffin, your FF4 filter structure got broken. Please run FF4, select Help > About and check you've got the latest version 4.016.
Then, with FF running in the background, go to the filter library, select any filter and load it to FF. Does that help ? |

All my filters are now there but my version of FF 4 Pro is 4.015. It checks for updates but says there are none available. I'm actually not sure what to do because I bought the never-ending updates for FF but mistakenly bought the one for the standard versions when I wanted the pro versions. That means that I have to keep FF 4 Pro going for when I need to save as 16 bit or need transparency. I hope that they will continue to keep it updated. |

None available? Are you sure you're selecting Tools > Updates (not Tools > Filter Updates)? I can't imagine how FF 4.015 can fail to find the update if you are online. Please download 4.016 manually. |

Yes, I just tried it again (tools/update) and it says something like 'no updates were found. Filter Forge is up to date (4.015)'
I am doing it manually right now..... Ok, so now it says I have 4.016. I'm still getting the error message that filters 13355-1.ffxml can not be opened and that I need a newer version of FF. Do I want to go to the Download page...yes or no. I usually say 'no' and continue working but the message is troubling. |

Just delete 13355-1.ffxml from appdata/roaming/filter forge 4/system/library/ and the message will be gone.
