When right clicking on the Color Control with images enabled, there is a 'Paste Image' command that can only paste an image copied from another Color Control and not from the main copy buffer from the Edit menu. Also there is not a refresh of the contents of the Color Control after pasting an image, some of the time.

This is by design, confirmed with Vladimir.
Remember that when you load an image into a Color Control, its path is saved to the current preset. Since an image in the buffer only exists in RAM, not on disk, we can't refer to it from the preset.
On the other hand, when you copy an image from another Color Control, FF uses a custom copy-paste procedure that does retain the image path.
