i just got a crash of FF. i had just made a new hdri lighting environment and it worked fine. no problem importing and no problem using this.

i had a number of programs open in windows, FF, paint shop pro 10, internet explorer, and windows explorer. so, i was using a LOT of windows resources.

after i created the new hdri, i made a screenshot of FF using the new environment and went into i.e. and posted this screenshot on the FF forums.

i went back into psp and set up a new image to import into the FF hdri import. i saved this and went into windows explorer and changed the file type (.jpg) to .exr.

i then made FF active again and hit 'import hdri' in the menu and got the attached bug report. i immediately took a screenshot of this, as sometimes the bug report generator doesnt work.

i then hit the 'generate report' button and got another error message. this one had more information in it than the last one, but i had already put one screenshot in the clipboard, so i didnt want to erase that with another. so, i just hit 'generate report' again and it failed to generate a report and crashed FF fully and crashed internet explorer fully.

also, i've noticed that when i REALLY tax my system and use a LOT of system resources, that FF will crash more frequently and not be able to generate a bug report. i suspect this has more to do with windows resource handling than with FF itself.

nonetheless, i'm attaching the one screenshot.

If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Kraellin, please send us the Filter Forge .log file.

It's stored here: "C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_USER_NAME\Local Settings\Temp" (to get there quickly, you can just type %Temp% in your browser address bar). The file is named "Filter Forge x86.log" or "Filter Forge x86-SSE2.log".

hi bella,

attached is the file you wanted. i peeked at it myself and there is one line in there i thought was interesting:
Quote
failed with error code 0x000005AA: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.
, which makes me think i had the right idea about what was going on. is there anything i can do on my end to help windows handle this situation better? i mean, other than having 4 programs open at the same time, two of which are working with image files constantly? is there some windows service or something i could turn on or off or add a file or remove a file or something?

i've actually had this happen a couple of times where i didnt report it because the browser wouldnt open to send the bug report and those few cases it was always a similar type crash; i'd have been working with large programs previous to working with FF or i had more than one program open at the same time, like psp usually.

in the early days of beta, i could almost always tell when FF was going to crash because it would start slowing down and the mouse would start to get a bit sticky and jump rather than scroll smoothly, but now i dont see that as much and so usually dont have much warning that this is going to happen.

so, is there anything, other than sending you folks bug reports, that i can do on my end to help alleviate this condition?

.....

ok, the file wouldnt attach here. apparently a .log file isnt a valid format for uploading here. so, i made a copy in notepad and saved it as a .txt file.

.....

hmmm, didnt like .txt files either. it's a small file, i'm printing it here:

Thanks, Kraellin. This is in fact quite satisfactory. I'll disregard your email, if you don't mind smile;)

Now we know that this is the same error concerning "Insufficient system resources" that we've been dealing with for quite a long time. The bad news is that we are still in darkness about what causes it. smile:| Well, we'll be digging deeper smile:|

well, i got another one, bella. and no, i dont mind about the email. do you want me to post that same log file again for this new one? it's a similar thing about system resources but i think a different error number.

here's the screenshot and again, it didnt generate the browser to send the report.

this one occurred after FF had been sitting in the background for quite a while. i ran psp and was browsing in forums and so on. when i went back to FF and tried to scroll down the filter list i got the crash and bug report popup. there was no second popup this time.

here's the screenshot:
