I'm hoping posting here in the forums is the right way to report this (other than submitting a bug-report via the program of course).
I cant seem to get filterforge to run properly on my current machine. I have tried the stand alone (both executables), as well as the Photoshop 7.0 and CS2 plugins (I have both installed). My processor is a 3.20 ghz duel core p4. (single processor).j <class XFW::OSCallError> ::GetWindowTextW(handle 001D021A) (control <class Controls::Label>@024163D8) failed with error code 0x00000005: Access is denied. If you need any other information to help diagnose the problem please let me know, I'll be more than happy to provide anything I can--I'm just anxious to actually try out the software. -Thanks Nicholas Bolden nbolden@climaxgroup.com |

Absolutely -- since the current version of our built-in bug report tool doesn't allow you to enter comments for the bug (we'll add that soon), posting here is a great way to provide addditional info such as your hardware details etc. Plus, maybe someone else also has this problem, so when you post it publicly, they might join the thread and contribute their info as well. Nicholas, does this happen immediately after you start Filter Forge? Do you see any of the program's windows or other output before this bug shows up? |

Nicholas, I've assigned this to programmers, they'll start working on it next week.

It happens as soon as the plugin is initialized, (IE. Filters > FilterForge *click*, *bam*, *crash*).
Similarly, when starting the standalone, it pauses a split second, and then throws the error (before ever popping up a window, or showing a flash screen (so no, I haven't actually seen any of the program's windows yet)) Edit: I have successfully gotten it to run quite fine on a 1.8ghz Athlon 2gigs ram, (since I suppose it was a window-draw related error?) It may be worth mentioning that the video card on the 3.2ghz machine is a GeForce 7800Gt. -Thanks Nicholas |

nope. no problems here. sounds like a registry or administrator permissions issue though.

Nicholas, what anti-virus software do you use? Is it active when you try to launch Filter Forge? |

I'll check which version exactly, when I get to work next, but...
Symantec. Also as far as permissions, the user I'm installing under is an administrator, but is of course not called 'administrator'. |

That shouldn't be a problem -- Filter Forge should work just fine even on non-admin accounts. |

I guess we would like to ask you to receive and use a special debug build to help us track the bug, probably next week.

I'm getting the exact same error. I don't see any of the program windows before hand, it just comes up about 3 seconds after I try opening the stand alone or the filter in adobe cs
![]() This is what I'm running (incase it helps anyone pinpoint whats wrong): Operating system: Windows XP (5.1 build 2600) Service Pack 2 Physical memory: 511 MB Number of processors: 1 Processor info: AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 1659MHz |

I'm getting nearly the same error message:
<class XFW::OSCallError> ::GetWindowTextW(handle 000D073E) (control <class Controls::Label>@027923D8) failed with error code 0x00000005: Access is denied. This is with Norton Anti-Virus disabled, and in PS CS2, Painter, and as a stand alone app. I also have Filter Forge installed on my laptop (smaller HD, less RAM) and it's running fine there. Ginger |

Good news -- looks like we have fixed this bug. Expect the fix in the next update.

We suspect that this GetWindowTextW thing was caused by some program probably sitting in the system tray. Maybe a tray screen capture tool, or an exotic messaging app -- do you have anything like that in your tray?

luluhime,
try disabling it from your startup. messengers often 'stay resident' even though you've seemingly shut them down and dont show in the system tray. disabling it in your startup will keep any components from even loading. you can add it back later. craig If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

No screen capture tools or exotic messaging apps in my system tray...only the basic stuff that's there on most PCs.

I've now had some more time to mess around with the 3.2ghz machine at work...
It's definitely got to be Nvidia's nView Desktop Manager. If I disable it, FilterForge starts right up (I can re-enable it after starting FilterForge, and FF seems to remain stable). Hope this helps. -nicholas |

That's it, Nicholas. I also have NVidia's Desktop Manager and as soon as I disabled it, FilterForge opened right up. Thanks,

I was getting the various error messages and couldn't open the program. I turned off NVidia's Desktop Manager and it loads fine.
