When I try and save a larger image (7500x3750) after putting a filter on it, Filterforge slows, freezes, and crashes. I get a message that I am low on memory. If Firefox is open that crashes as well. I have an SSD with 40GB free.

Smaller pictures work. I have the professional edition and it says it can deal with pictures up to 65000x65000. This happens on the latest version of 6 and in the 7 beta.

There is not enough information given to help

1 - How much memory do you have in your computer?

Have you configured the amount of RAM that FF can use? Because it will not use all your RAM unless you configure it this way

Go to Tools > Options > Rendering and increase maximum RAM usage to 90%.

2 - What filter are you using that crashes? Or it happens with many filters?

3 - What CPU and graphic card do you have?

4 - How are you using when it crashes? Is it standalone or as plugin? Or both?

I increased it to 90% it still happened.

Many of the other filters are alright, but the 'Paint HDRtist' filter crashes it every time. Which is weird, since I have used it before without an issue.

Paint HDRtist tends to be a very heavy filter.

How much RAM do you have? What you mentioned is the harddrive capacity which is different from what your RAM there is.
