the only drawback to this is the 'disgruntled' user who decides to wipe out everything he's posted or the person who wants to hide some trash talk or something.
frankly, not being able to edit older posts isnt all bad. it keeps folks from posting some things they might not otherwise post. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

It hasn't been a problem on lakersground.net (which has more active and heated discussions than you'll find here) but I see your point.

uber,
we're actually pretty trouble-free here, so it's not likely to really be a problem. i think we've only had one ban/deletion so far. and frankly, on any forum i'm on, i like to be able to edit, if only for typos, grammar and so on. but i also have a foul taste in my mouth when i think of one peron on one forum i've been on that not only deleted their own posts effectively, but managed to convince the admin to remove the entire thread, including pictures and posts by other people. and that just sucked. If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

Editing previous posts would help if, say, someone wrote a Filter Forge tutorial and needed to update it some months later. They could start a new thread, but that'd lose the context and discussion of the original.
I'm enjoying using Filter Forge to create http://torley.com/textures |

If you really really really need to update/change something, ask the moderators. But we're usually pretty reluctant about editing existing posts.

A Wiki would be a better place for tutorials. (we're working on it). |
