I want to suggest to be able to open TWO filter editor windows instead of only one

Why? Well, if you can open TWO filter editor windows, you could open two different filters at the same time and so it would be really easy to copy and paste components between them

This is much better and easier than as it happens now having to close the filter you are working on to be able to copy another component (or group of components) from another filter and then again close it and open again the filter your were working with.

HAVE YOUR OWN FAVORITE COMPONENTS ALREADY CONFIGURED AS YOU WANT AND WITH PRESETS

Also you could make a special filter that would work as an storage place to keep all the components you want ALREADY CONFIGURED as you want and not with the factory defaults presets, and also you have YOUR FAVORITE GROUP OF COMPONENTS as a kind of snippets (using the color control component to identify them with text like if they was stickers) and so would me much easier to have things in one place instead of searching for them in the FF list.

MAKE DIFFERENT VERSION OF THE SAME FILTER EASIER

When I make a filter or modify another filter, I sometimes make 3 or more variations with different configurations, shapes or components, and if you could open two filter editor windows, it would be better to copy components and shapes from one version of the same filter to another and experiment and try things better.

I THINK THIS WOULD PERPHAPS BE EASY TO DO

Although I do not know how FF works, I do not think that allowing to open 2 filter editor windows would be something complex to do and would be easy to implement and have in FF

I know that there is a real and good reason why is not allowed to open two main filter forge windows but I think that it would be possible and not be a problem to open two filter editor windows.

And the only thing I could find that possibly and perhaps could be a some kind of problem if the filter editor is opened in the plugin, but if this could be a problem, it could be done that it only works when used as a standalone.

I would like to know if there is some technical reason or something that makes not possible to be able to do this of opening two filter editor windows at the same time.

As said I think that would be very helpful and interesting, unless you may have a different way to make it and find another possible way to have something similar.

Please, could be possible to know if this would be possible or not?

I think this could be very useful although I do not know if it would be possible.

Thanks very much

It has been confirmed that there will not be possible to have a custom components bars in FF 4.0, and I understand it, but I wonder:

Why is not possible to open TWO filter editor windows?

Is there any technical reason why this is impossible to make in FF as it is already done?

Because if you could have two filter editor windows it would be very easy and fast to copy and paste components from one filter to another

And with this is not needed to change anything in the interface

Please, could be possible if this could be possible?

Thanks

I would rate this as highly unlikely. Sorry SpaceRay, there is no reply for the "Why" part of your question — a single Filter Editor window is the natural course of things.

Thanks very much GMM for answering and giving your opinion, and telling that this is highly unlikely to happen, although seems that is not impossible then smile;) smile:D

I know why is not allowed to have to FF Software windows open, as I think it could be a problem when using plugin and you could open another windows and there would be problem having them. BUT, having TWO FILTER EDITOR windows I do not see any problem I can imagine, although of course I do not know how FF works and is programmed and do not know any technical reason it could be.

Well, I agree that this may be the natural course of thing in the FF world, but in some many other software I know the natural course of things is that if you want to copy something from one place to another, you just open two windows, and then easily copy and paste from one to another.

This way would be the easiest to have without having to modify the interface and add more things, but I understand and agree that maybe there are some reasons that as you said, this having just a single window is the natural way for FF.

Run a second instance in sandbox mode
http://www.sandboxie.com/

Be warned ff is already a cpu hog so be prepared for 2 to suck even more juice
lets all whine for a wine port

Run a second instance in sandbox mode

smile:D smile:D I have already had this idea too just this week, as the problem is that FF does not allow more than one window in the same OS, but what would happen if you could open another OS inside the main OS in a windows? smile;) smile8) smile:)

So I have been searching for virtualization software like the VMWare, and have seen also another sandbox software, but I think that your sandboxie software suggestion is easier and better than any other of the options and alternatives I have found as it does not need to reboot and works directly embedded in Windows.

Although it would be possible to run two FF, HOW would they communicate together? I mean that if you copy components fr om filter editor in the sandboxie, could you be able to paste it after in the other filter editor? Does the sandboxie share the same clipboard (or wh erever the FF information is stored) in both parts?

I like the idea to have multi windows... While only one is active, I do not see reason against

I have the same question, and as you I only see a reason for the main Filter Forge window BUT not for Filter Editor window

I have put above this
