I would like coherence enhancing and edge enhancing anisotropic diffusion added. I've worked with coherence enhancing anisotropic diffusion in Photoshop, using its filter for this. But Photoshop's filter is set too strong, and offers no way to lower it. So it would be best to come in below Photoshop's level, and then let the user make it repeat.

FWIW, here are some examples of anisotropic diffusion: http://www.mia.uni-saarland.de/weickert/demos.html

I have also wanted a better anisotropic filter than the one in Photoshop, which has an annoying artifact. I would even try to come up with a map script for this if I had enough to go on example/mathmathics-wise.

So, a little bump for this old thread, which is one of two that mention anisotropic filtering.

My current favorite version of a anisotropic filter is from gmic.eu under Artistic / Dream Smoothing. G'mic can be used with GIMP and paint.net and others. I've got it working on GIMP on MacOS, but I wouldn't advise trying, it was super tricky... easier under Windows. Example:

Math meets art meets psychedelia.
