Filter designers pretty often find themselves repeatedly recreating certain setups of components, for example when generating circles or squares from profile gradients. Therefore, it would be nice to have a way to encapsulate these standard "recipes" into user-created custom components, which only make the relevant controls visible in the filter editor interface. They would be saved to the components toolbox (under the new category "Custom"), yet remain fully editable when dragged into the editor, and would be visualized as a single component node. Upon editing, they would again reveal their internal component-network, either by entering a sub-level of the filter editor or by expanding to a window overlay.

Definitely a good idea. I was creating a pie chart and one slice would have been a component and the pie chart, the mother component.
