Hmmm??? Would give us some example Uber. I have no idea what is 'Polar Coordinates Distortion'. Doest it distort only on North and South points of the component? smile:)

I believe he's talking about converting Cartesian coordinates (X and Y) to Polar ones (Angle and Distance) and back. Certainly not a complex task (and will probably make things like circular gradients a lot easier). Not sure about seamless, but nevertheless it's a good idea worth a try -- I'll discuss that one with Vlad.

"A polar bear is a normal cartesian bear expressed in polar coordinates" smile:D

Speaking seriously, the only thing that blocks us from including the polar coordinates is that Filter Forge is currently "all seamless", and to introduce non-seamless components we'll need to redesign the internals, the website and the interface in order to accomodate the concept of non-seamless filters.

LOL... never heard that before... so I'm gunna start calling our brown, black and grizzly bears. Cartesian black, brown and well... cartesian mean for the grizzly.

This builds on work by uberzev and myself - uses radial and angle gradients. Also uses a workaround while the offset doesn't have an "absolute" option by blending in an offset gradient.

There still seem to be some things to adjust but I'm off to Brasília tomorrow and won't have time to fiddle with this.

Hope you find it interesting. smile:D

Very interesting and complex byRo. Brilliant work, but I'd still like to have this built in.

Yep, so would I.
But while we're waiting I submitted the finished filter.

Well byRo, how about a Polar-to-Cartesian filter, or is that too much to ask? smile:D

Also byRo, I suggest you switch to my tiles-to-circles method when generating the horizontal offset map. This is because it is based on a linear curve which produces a more accurate conversion. See here for an example...

Not at all, that's exactly my next project. smile:D

Thanks! I will do that as soon as I take it apart and understand exactly how (why) it works.

Funny, this is a lot easier than the other way.
There's still something wrong somewhere, but it's pretty much done.

This is the filter....

There's still a little problem in there somewhere, when I figure it out I'll submit.

Absolutely awesome work Rô!

I couldn't resist to combine the two and make a Radial and Circular Blur out of them - it's not totally perfect yet, but not too bad either:

Well, since that technique worked already in Photoshop 3.0 the copyright on it has probably expired by now smile;)

But as you can see my version of it is not yet perfect - there's the ugly hard edge in the circular and spiral blur and it would be nicer if the mapping continued also in the four corners.
