----FF isn't gonna sell anything that defeats the purpose of buying FF, ie = rendered graphics. Thinking FF is going to do anything but sell FF is kind of silly, their 'interests' in growing their library are minimal at this point, and would be cheaper and 100X easier to do simply by paying a few Constantin's or Crapa's or Sphinx's or whomever, a few hundred bucks to make some of what they want in the library.
----Ya'll wanna make money selling graphics (in this case your own filter output), then get with Fred or some other company if he'll/they'll take your stuff, or barf up a website, get a Paypal account, and start selling. FF ain't gonna do it for ya.

That's exactly what I wish FF would do with this.....take customers away from those sites and bring them here.....by selling all those FF texture results and copyrights separately from the program.....using it as an author incentive to bring in new authors and quality filter submissions.....creating profit for both FF and authors.....and while "magnetizing" and creating quite a "draw" to this program for sales.....

Authors could also do creative PS work on their texture results and sell them along side of their straight results through their storefront here.....

And if FF does not choose to do that ... what then?

Speaking for myself, I have already joined the Partner Program and am prominently promoting FF on two of my sites. The results so far are one license purchase. If FF had a reseller program, I would be marketing it as I do collections and we would have probably generated ten to fifteen sales as a companion product to my ready-to-use collections in the same time period.

As much as you would like to think that good filters is what it's all about, and I am not putting down the value of good filters, the real name of the game is to get people to buy the program. That comes from advertising and marketing including giving attractive discounts to entities that can move product.

Right now FF is a well kept secret. Most people that I know have never heard of it. That's because most people, in my field at least, get their information from print catalogs put out by distributors servicing their type of business.

I'm just talking about tilable texture results and their creative modification in PS.....which I don't think would defeat the purpose at all....in fact, I think it would promote it. All you would be doing is selling them and making the money on them here.....instead of customers going someplace else (like Fred's site) to buy them......

I think it's pretty clear that alot of authors aren't going to go through the trouble of creating their own website to do this.....haven't seen even one author from here who has done it..... smile;) On the other hand, I think authors would take advantage of it if they could easily just load them up in a storefront here.....

Don't be so sure that FF won't eventually do something like this.....because as the library is growing, the copy reward incentives are slowly but surely diminishing.....from an ever-decreasing 'time-is-money' justification to create something better than the growing amount existing filters..... smile;) smile:)

----That's exactly why FF won't do what us filter makers aren't doing, too much time for too little return, and additionally in FF's case = it would take away from their $99-$299 product.
----If Fred's numbers were better I'd have already signed up with him, as it is, I may attempt to open a royalty free graphics website later this year with a couple of local photographers as partners in it. Time will tell, and like Fred said (and I've been saying for at least 6 months now, no one knows about FF, cause they've done no advertising), so we all still have time.

Royalty Free does not mean the images are free. It just means that the license is not such that any other payment is ever due when you use the image. You still have to pay for a royalty free license.

----I will have to reseach some of the bigger sites and see how they display them, I do not think they give any of them away (regardless of size). If we were going to do some kind of low-budget gamer/scrapbooker site, then giving away 300X300 samples or something might be worthwhile for advertising or whatever.
----I have 3 photographer friends with thousands & thousands of pictures each. The question is, are they really going to put in the time to sort/crop, resort/recrop, then resort some more, until they are in finished categorized collections. Chances are I will end up having to do a lot of that, and there will be less actual photographs for sale, but whatever works. I'm not looking at opening shop til late this year, and possibly not until early 2009, unless that FF update hits a lot sooner than I think it will.

----No, I need batch rendering or a 2nd computer, cause I ain't sitting around clicking a button after each render, and having like 5% of my cpu available for 1-4 hours at a time as they render. I also highly suspect the next update will be V1.5, but that's just a guess.

Excellent!!! smile:) smile:) smile:)

It didn't "click" with me until I started thinking about the pros and cons of the proposed new EULA.....and how it could be used to benefit both authors and FF.....

In addition to added revenue from texture result sales.....I think the incentives that could be created from it would bring in continuous waves of new authors.....who would be falling over each other to create textures that would sell. The author "buzz" would promote program in such a way that you wouldn't have to lift a finger to advertise it......and surely put sales of the program on a much steeper incline.....

I guess that I can stop my ongoing crusade about this and get back to work..... smile;)

Unless the filters are lockable, then I can't say I have too much interest in the idea of selling rights to use filters commercially or whatever, I mean look at someone like uuk who just copies filters left and right with minor changes. If the filters are locked, then I could see it being a maybe worthwhile thing to get involved with, if not, then it's just more of the same only with real money to be lost this time around (as opposed to just usage points). Or are we talking about FF actually playing middleman to sell renders, like texture packs ?

Cause truth be told, I'm not interested in licensing filters, not really, or I'd be working with Fred (that 17th most popular filter is garbage for anything but games or videogame based movies, mine = way better, and I bet the one Constantin did/will do for Fred blows even mine away). If FF is gonna sell texture packs for me, then I'm interested, maybe, if the money is there. Then it gets complicated, license terms, render sizes, clauses, limits, I don't see it, FF ain't gonna try to become Getty Images Jr. here man. It'll be one-size-fits too-cheap-a-customer-to-bother-with if it becomes anything, sorry.

jffe

P.S. And yeah, for one-of-few-times-ever, since I'm hyphenating everything anyways ha-ha, I'd love to be proven wrong and see FF sell commercial textures for $25-$100 a pop like the big boys, good luck though, that is a totally different world from software sales and writing Eulas that aren't worth your printer ink to keep a copy of.

----Sounds like a plan. I don't believe the world was never a 'happy' place (well, never any happier than it ever is/was), people just don't stay 'happy', somehow they can manage to stay angry or a lot of other things, but happy never seems to stick for some reason ha-ha. I'm not aware of cheese being available in a can even now, so hey, there's something I have no opinion on eh. smile:D
