I'm wondering what the status is on this. Is it implemented under the hood in v1.004? By the way, Digital Fusion has a really sweet and highly interactive proxy system, which seems very much worth looking at. It has a Proxy mode, which only renders every N-th pixel of an image (with N being defined by the user). On top of that, the Auto-Proxy mode kicks in while adjusting controls on tools and even further reduces the samples taken from the image, thus making it possible to preview interactively while tweaking. While you can literally fly through most PAL composites at High Quality with Fusion, this really starts kicking ass when you do 2K comps and up. Now, something similar to this would be a lovely thing to have in Filter Forge, and really speed up tweaking out large filter networks. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Well, it was implemented in 1.003 and works great ![]() |

Ok, so I guess what you are refering to are under-the-hood speed optimizations. But what about a user-controllable way of speeding the previews up like in my example above? Some sort of interactive, adaptive degradation of the render quality that kicks in while you are tweaking parameters?

Not at all -- it's a real proxy preview that renders a smaller picture than the target size. You can open a huge picture like 65000x65000 pixels, but with the proxy preview turned on your entire rendering size will not exceed your screen area. |

The adaptive degradation wouldn't work with bitmap-based components like Blur, Sharpen and HighPass -- yes, you can render them with degradation (every nth pixel or so) but you still have to render their input (the image to blur/sharpen) in full quality. |

Vlad, thanks for taking the time to clarify that. Much appreciated.

Hey Vlad, is there any shortcut key to switch between them? Maybe in the next update we would have a checkbox on the side of "[ ]Show Original" checkbox or a single key (as TAB key) to switch between them. |

No, there's no shortcut (when we designed this, we didn't feel that such a hotkey will be used very often.) As a workaround, you can use the standard hotkeys added by the menu system (this approach works in any menu, not just this particular one): (Hold Alt) V then P then A - for actual size (Hold Alt) V then P then R - for reduced size (Hold Alt) V then P then H - to hide the notice |

That should be in that "tip" thread that I don't remember where it is.

Ok, I've added that to the list. We won't add a checkbox (too much clutter) but a hotkey is certainly possible.

For the sake of consistency, maybe the Preview Size options from the View menu should also be integrated into the filter image context menu?
