oh, now that's just cool. i love the wall! if i were doing a gallery, that would be a very cool way of doing it. and yes, i downloaded and installed it. works fine in i.e. 7.

btw, dilla, do your name 'crapadilla' in the search. try 'kraellin' too smile:)

and thank you. i like this a lot and it seems to be free to end users, which is a bit surprising. i can only assume they're selling it to the commercial folks to make their $$$.

it works fine on yahoo, dilla, but you may have to be in the image search area before it will and not just their regular newsy pages.

now, one interesting thing i saw on their pages was the ability to embed this thing on any web site. that means that FF could actually add this to the FF forums here, which i think would be very cool, especially if we had a gallery area. it might even work well for viewing the library here.

Yeah, it looks good.....but the combo of PicLens, FF, and IE7 was seizing up my machine.....

I couldn't figure out what was causing it.....then I found in Task Manager that all three programs were at war with each other in the background without any of the programs being open.....not good!!!

This is what happened after I installed PicLens.....

Okay, here's the play by play.....

IE7 was the only program running.....downloaded and installed PicLens.....tested it out on the web and worked fine.....went to FF and worked fine.....closed browser.....opened FF and the editor cursor was stuck on grab (hand pointer) so I couldn't work on filters.....in trying to open other programs, they would come up for a second then close on their own, then stay open on the second attempt to open them.....FF wouldn't allow me to connect to their website, but I could get there if I opened the browser separately from FF.....then my comuter started to completely seize up, thus forcing hard shutdowns.....the task manager showed that IE, FF, and PicLens Active X programs were all fluxuating to max out CPU usage without the programs being open.....

Well, by what I just experienced, I realize that PicLens wasn't the culprit..... smile:hammer:

I hate to say anything bad about FF because I love the program.....but man, this ongoing stability issue (aka - "Resource Leak") really needs to be "nipped in the bud" once and for all.....

I would strongly suggest that FF dump the third party OS patch code and do the unthinkable.....get some M$ Support..... smile:eek: smile:eek: smile:eek:

lol.

i think this is something on your end, steve. i have no trouble with piclens, ie7 (which is what i normally use) and FF. i even did like you said and opened the FF editor with i.e.7 up and piclens running.

I've had this 'resource leak' once or twice in all the time since the beta, so I don't consider it an issue at all.

In fact, the resource leak doesn't exist at all! It's just an imaginary memory figment created by some faulty AI routines belonging to my 'Sockpup-It!' personality simulation software. Strangely enough, it only occurs when I load the "StevieJ" routines, and maybe occasionally for some others... smile;) smile:D

It is a problem for me smile:evil: , I've even had it wipe out a filter just trying to open it from the GUI - when I've just opened FF - mind you it was one of Steve's smile;) smile:) so I don't quite understand that it's a rescoure leak when it can happen straight away on opening with nothing else running smile:| I wonder if it's more than that smile:?:

the resource leak is real. no question. but this piclens thing seems to be related to something on your system, steve. could be vid drivers or just about anything.

Well, everything was working fine until I openned FF..... smile:?:

PicLens is a cool little add-on.....but I'm kinda scratching my head to why FF is doing anything else besides putting all energy into getting rid of this ongoing "Resource Leak" problem. I can't imagine that they are going to release the Mac and PC V2 versions without remedying it first..... smile:?:

because it's a cool little app that takes like 10 minutes to embed on a website and doesnt involve the coders and makes all the FF stuff look even better?

Steve, as Vladimir has mentioned many times, v2 will be the remedy for the resource leak bug because the third-party library that causes it will then be replaced by in-house code. That being so, postponing the fix until v2 seems like a logical decision, since that version will see great infrastructural changes anyway due to making the whole codebase platform-independent.

So, instead of bitching about the resource leak, we should all be crying for a Mac version, as v2 is not going to happen without it. smile:| smile:D

Well, from what I gathered from Vlad, they still can't figure out what is causing the "Resource Leak" problem.....and like you said, they did mention that they are going to try new code to remedy it.....

Vlad also mentioned that the PC and Mac versions will share most of the platform base code.....so I would think that they would have it remedied in a PC V1.xxx update before releasing either the Mac or PC V2 versions for backward compatibility reasons alone, eh??? ......maybe even a Mac V1 release with it in order to keep PC and Mac versions consistent and coinciding with each other..... smile;) smile:D

If you examine FF's update policy, you don't see any drastic changes happening in the 1.0xx updates, just small cosmetic enhancements and fixes here and there. That leads me to conclude that they're going to throw all potentially dramatic changes into one pot and have an extended beta period to test it all out.

It's buried in one of the strings somewhere.....I believe it was OnyxMaster who mentioned it.....

Yeah, it definitely looks that way.....and another beta period would quite beneficial given the success of the first one..... smile:devil:

I just found some of it.....

onyXMaster wrote:
the leak is almost certainly (I usually know what I'm talking about when it comes to programming) is one of closed-source libraries we licensed from a 3rd party:
a) [excuse me for my language] its support plainly sucks (won't dive into details here for obvious reasons)
b) nevertheless, it's one of the best solutions of its kind on the market
c) it is Windows-specific, so Mac version won't have any trace of it
d) we're going to license another library performing the same function or even roll our own for both Windows and Mac (check "c" above)
e) but not until 2.0 or at least 1.5, since it will put a great burden not only on the dev team, but on the release engineering and support teams also, since there will be certain compatibility issues with previous versions

Vlad did mention somewhere that the PC and Mac where going to be sharing alot of that code.....which makes sense to do.....but it does conflict somewhat with what onyxMaster posted about it..... smile:|

vlad also mentioned something about fixing some things in a 1.5 version for the pc AFTER the mac came out or maybe concurrently. perhaps that will happen and have the leak fix.

so, patience, grasshopper! we havent even fully tapped verion 1.xx yet smile;)
