Would be very cool.

I agree. The ability to have two layers working on eachother would be very nice. If I remember correctly, I read that this was already on 'The List'.

Yes i would love this feature also and its good to know its on the list, i think it would help take FF to something more than a texture maker also and maybe even put it into the gui/general graphics maker catagory, of course the images imported would most likely make the texture not seamless but seeing as we can render textures in non seamless mode already also i think it would be a good idea, theres been alot of filters that make letters out of tons of modules and this would allow it to be just as simple as selecting a nice font putting it as white over black or something importing then with a few extra modules extracting the data to just the text, then applying it to the main texture and doing aditional things with it.

james, that's an application i hadnt thought of, the font stuff. lots that could be done there with that type of system. i can see a 'point control' system eventually entering FF. set a point to define a mask, set another and another and so on until you had the mask shape you wanted. nice idea.
i also see FF at some point branching out from its 'texture wrapper' mold. and i think that's when the fun will REALLY start ![]() If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!

This is an entirely different thing. Even a good vector editor is not enough to make a real font editor. Also, I don't think that creating fonts procedurally is a good idea. |

Font creation shouldn't be FF's concern, IMHO. That's the expertise of countless other programs. But support for vector fonts would be so sweet, because of the grand possibilities in combination with particle bombers.
... OT: That reminds me... Vladimir, I had put down a few thoughts on the vector font subject in this thread. In case you're not too bored by the topic, maybe you can give your comment on the FF team's current plans regarding the subject. ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Yes, I remember that thread. The vectors (including possible fonts) are very low-priority at the moment. We don't have any concrete plans regarding this yet.

Ok. Now we can safely file that topic away until the next beta.

well, i've only toyed with vector graphics a bit here and there, but i would have thought vector would lend itself quite nicely to font making. just grab a line and adjust the curve and so on. but, having only toyed with it, i'll bow to those that know

Well, the point is, we don't want the FF team wasting resources and time in areas where other applications have already invented the 'wheels', right? There's lots of font creation utilities and lots of vector graphics editors out there.
I feel that vector shape rasterizing capability (i.e. text component) would be nice, but I don't think FF should become a vector graphics editor in any way. It should just be able to import and rasterize vectors... --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |
