Maybe Filter Forge Inc would implement that system that is growing so fast each day in the Internet. I'm talking about the micropayment system! Now a days, we can see a lot of these sites that works with micropayment system for stock images (royalty-free / not free) or even 3D files (.obj, 3ds, etc). So, people buy high-resolution images for $1, $2, $3 and so on. Contributors get 20 to 40% of the sale (depending their levels) or get to convert their earned credits into credits for future downloads.
Filter Forge Library would work like that for FFXML files. So, When we upload a filter to the library we would set if we want the price FREE, 1, 2 or 3 dollars. The Texturer/contributor would get some percentual (20%-40%) for each donwload made from somebody else or they can convert their earnings later into credits to upload other ffxml files from other members or request a cheque when they reach $100 bucks or receive their payments through Paypal. ![]() Well, just a suggestion for the future. |

Hmm, sort of like the idea but don't really want to end up making payments to see how things were done, i think the current system is good for learning which is why theres more and more great textures being made because people have picked up tips on the way through the community, im not against an idea like this but i think it would slow things down a bit.

You could always have a memeber area where you can sort all your filters and add your paypal so if people like your filter they can send a donation your way, just a quick idea i had

Personally, I see Filter Forge (in combination with the FREE filter library) as a tool that - by design and philosophy - is built to grow and evolve through the mutual creative cooperation of its community. First and foremost! In a way, the program itself is the foundation of a high-rise building, and the users build on top of that foundation, one brick a time with every filter and idea. It is a cooperative effort, with each user contributing freely to construct a building that is fully functional for ALL, and constantly evolving in quality. The community is FF's greatest asset and the lifeblood that it needs to become what it aspires to be. The way I see it, this is also one of the strongest marketing features of FF, and more interestingly, it's one that doesnt have to be coded up. You get it for free, if you have the 'right' kind of philosophy behind it.
Therefore, it appears pretty obvious that commercializing this free forum of ideas and creativity - as with anything that gets commercialized - will ultimately only serve to harm the quality of the product for everyone. It would be turned into a tool mainly effective for those with the deepest pockets. Wherever money has reign over creativity and free growth, you can rest assured that the latter two go overboard quickly, and those whose creations are driven by purely commercial motives seldom create work that leads to evolution and growth in quality. To conclude my little rant, I have to write that I am vehemently against any commercialization of the FF library, whatever form it may take. Keep it free and you keep it evolving and getting better. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

hmm, interesting idea. i, for one, would never buy an FF filter from the library. i wouldnt mind earning a few bucks for mine being sold, but i rarely buy plugins. but i have tons of free ones. i'm a cheap s.o.b.
![]() so, the hard part for me on this is, i might be able to submit a few filters to the 'commercial library' and earn a few bucks, but i'd be pretty much locked out of receiving any of those filters, since i dont buy many plugins. you might argue that i could simply convert my sales for my buys, but why bother? if i'm just trading my sales for my credits to buy, it seems an unnecessary step. also, consider who is going to use FF. it seems that there are a lot of game companies involved in the beta. they have the program. you think those creative people are going to buy textures when they can just make them themselves? and that somewhat applies to anyone who buys FF. they have the program. and then consider this, the ffxml files are NOT attached to the program. they can be freely distributed by email or web site or whatever. one person buys the file and then sends it to 1000 friends, who in turn send it each to 1000 others. i'm afraid it just wont work. the ONLY key that is needed is the key to run the program, not the individual filters. so, you'd have to have some sort of copy protection junk on EACH filter and that's just going to get kind of goofy, i would think. it is kind of an interesting idea, but i dont think FF is really set up to do this this way. Craig If wishes were horses... there'd be a whole lot of horse crap to clean up!
