it would be nice to be able to save named presets, even on simple nodes. this would allow us to go in new directions without having to undo a bunch of unrelated stuff when it doesn't work out

One way this could work would be to have the filter library available from the edit interface.
You'd be able to insert the contents of any filter into the current filter, as well as save your current selection as a new filter. |
