Feature request: since external images are not uploadable when submitting a filter, the addition of a "fixed image" component would be a good idea. This would allow an external image to be converted to a "single component" and uploaded at submit time, and perhaps would add another list to the filter to go along with the built in images. Of course I realize that an external image component would probably put a lot of demands on FF servers if FF stores these "fixed image components"... perhaps a file size limitation.

Here's the reality: copyright. You can't expect everybody to be a law abiding citizen. You can't trust everybody who uploads material to be the 100% rights holder and the person able to claim rights given there's no way to verify and trust that verification across the internet. So yeah... it's quite tough.
Addendum: Even if we embed images into a filter, the limitations of image size will become a major issue. For example, if I produce a bomber with embedded images, where each image is 250x250px. If my output resolution (lets just say) is 10,000x10,000 then that tiny little image will get scaled (depending on my settings). It'll produce pixelated results if it happens so that I want to have those bomber images scaled. The power of FilterForge rests in the ability to internally generate imagery. The idea of it being that you can render those at any resolution and have them still look crisp. |

Yup, Skybase is correct. User-supplied image upload to library is not likely to happen for a multitude of reasons.
However, what FF should to is diversify their built-in preview images to support cases like yours. I don't see why there can't be some particle/brush-style preview images for use with the bomber. We're also missing a cool FilterForge text for demonstrating text effects. In short, there's room for improvement on that front. Btw, links to the relevant feature requests threads can be found here. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Good points all around. I agree, more preview images. Just for fun, I've attached a test image in the new filter using a branch brush. Yeah, copyright is always a problem. When I release the new filter with a link to the brush files I created in Photoshop (mostly 200x200), I will post a copyright/use notice on the files for free use by anyone for any purpose. And yes I did consider making font brushes, but resisted...

Crapadilla and Skybase are right. Uploading images won't be implemented but there's a workaround.

I think ultimately that "workaround" kinda is a bit sluggish in the end. I gave it a shot a couple times.
By suggestion, however, if anybody's doing pixel artsy style images that script might work. |

Interesting workaround, but too slow for my uses. Even with just 5 brushes at 200x200, no one would use it, waiting for the preview would be agony. If the "binary" component could be pre-built so that it didn't have to fill the map array at runtime, that would solve the problem. A long shot feature request
