I would very much like to see a way for the two things in the title to be done in FF. I think in many cases this could be useful and have no idea why this hasn't been done already. Basically, I would like to see a way for different components to output numerical values in a similar fashion to numerical controls. Currently the only components that output numerical values are controls and to my knowledge not even the lua components can do this. I would also like to see controls that can take a non-numerical input and perform mutation style functions on it before passing it along as a numerical output. Similar to the RGB Math nodes but purely numerical output so it can be linked to numerical input points. These things would allow for much more dynamic filters that could be more easily and specifically based on their input images such that 1 filter could create hundreds of effects depending on the input image. It would also allow for many other useful new combinations and filter chains. I'm certain we would see some very creative and interesting results from these being used, especially if used in tandem with all the other new components that have been added to FF over the last couple years.

Indeed, and this (or something similar/related) has been requested several times.

Response curves or math for control inputs

Control Script

And somewhere else (I can't find that right now) it was suggested that we got a "Green to Gray Converter Control" (green in, gray out), which allow you to use the value from a fixed (configurable) position, say x=0.5, y=0.5. This value is then used for the control.

EDIT: here they are:

Constant value components

That's very much like some of the things I was thinking of. I'd be very happy to have all of those, along with the ones I attempted to describe. In general, the more nodes we have the more we can do and the more creative we can get. At the very least we should be able to do this through Lua, whats even the point of having Lua capabilities in it's current hyper limited form. Just give us a blank component that we can script with Lua to be anything we want. If its a bad design or script or idea let us figure that out and decide that. So, yes to all of this please smile:)

Of course, it's almost pointless to keep adding any of these things, or any other new things, if there ins't ever any intention of upgrading FF's hardware usage capabilities, which are already falling short. But, I'll leave that alone for now I guess.
