i know we've discussed seamless tiling and having components that had the option of turning this off. things like profile gradient and so on. and i think i remember vladimir considering this.

however, for a short term 'fix', i'd almost be just as happy if retangular, imported images could be compressed on the long side to make square images. this is already done in the preview windows of components. rectangular images show as squares in component preview windows. yes, the images look a bit skewed at times and some wouldnt work at all this way. but some would. some little button on the GUI somewhere that was a simple checkbox would do the trick. "display as square"

yes, i could do this in another program and simply square my rectangles up, but that means opening up another program, finding the image, calling it up, adjusting the size, saving as a new file and then finding that in FF. that's normally more work than it's worth and takes up extra drive space, not to mention memory.

low priority, but thought i'd mention it. (yeah, i know... i'm lazy smile:) )

I like that idea. Also there should be an option whether the "squarification" is acheived by scaling or cropping.
