Providing the same functionality as currently present on the Frame component, these two options would greatly enhance the versatility of gradients, making them more flexible and predictable when dealing with non-square images and 'Size, pixels' settings below maximum.
I mentioned this briefly in another feature wish thread. Just making sure it gets proper attention. ![]() ![]() --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

With 'Size' set to 150 on a 300x300 px image, the gradient repeats (see below). In this case, a 'Fixed' option would be the remedy, allowing the gradient to remain at a fixed size while all other filter components would scale according to the Size setting specified. Voila, perfect transition from unripe to ripe!

On a non-square image, the 'Proportional' option would non-uniformly scale the gradient to fill the whole image, overriding the standard behaviour seen below.

It remains to be discussed whether this could/should be implemented for other components as well...
One component that comes to my mind as a candidate would be 'Offset', where fixed/proportional behaviour certainly can be desireable in some cases. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

While closely examining the latest manufacturing flaw on the non-square clockwork above, another component comes to my mind: Kaleidoskope! --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

----Or maybe FF should force any input image to be perfectly squared, like auto-stretch it or whatever. Admittedly, that would not be my (or probably anyone's) first choice solution, just suggesting something along these lines, in case what's already been requested simply isn't possible for some reason.

I don't know how drastic a re-architecturing this would require or whether it's already been discussed and dismissed internally, but I think it's worthwhile to discuss generalizing this across all components.
Having the option to toggle between behaviour A (scalable, square-tile based) and behaviour B (fixed size, non-square image-aspect based) would be powerful indeed, especially when you can set this on a per-component basis. The advantage for gradients (with the exception of the elevation gradient) and the offset component can be clearly demonstrated. --- Crapadilla says: "Damn you, stupid redundant feature requests!" ;) |

Yes the Profile Gradient is the most obvious candidate for this functionality. As for others and the infrastructure, yes, it will require a big rethinking, and I'm afraid we just can't afford this right now -- we're launching soon.
