I vote for that too. Modern shaders in games could do so complicated calculations in realtime for so huge amount of pixels. I just don't understand why we can't do the same in image soft.

It looks like Unreal 4 or similar game engine may have a lot more chances to become a new cool image editing tool with its node based editors

DirectX is Windows is OpenGL to OSX.
You can not make an direct port to Windows.
Illustrator uses OpenGL on Apple Computers.
OpenGL and DirextX have the same purpose for the operating Systems.
OpenCl takes advantages of graphic controllers for rendering not just giving the jobs to one.
By the way OpenCl has been apple for a while.
CUDA no longer available in newer Apple computers.

I feel like I'm killing the buzz but I was just trying to point out that the request has been made for it a gajillion times. You made a thread requesting OpenCL earlier and now you're saying DirectX. The whole gist of it is that you're asking for GPU acceleration. It's one of those super exhausted topics that at this point any additional threads don't really add that much weight to the already-most-requested-feature.

Check this link out on the section that specifies GPU.

the best way would be to use OpenCL instead of DirectX or CUDA, as it would be compatible with all the graphics cards and also is compatible with both Windows OS and Mac OS

The GPU acceleration has already been requested LOTS of times

Newer Apple Computers are using AMD Video Cards.AMD Supports the latest OpenCL Version.
Older Apple Computers Used NVIDIA And Those Used CUDA If OpenCL was Supported it was only a early version.
Adobe Illustrator Uses OpenGL for Acceleration.
The Plugin need not Use it but the standalone would Benefit from it smile:)
