Just for the record: it would be nice to have a few more blending modes, especially "add" and "subtract". I'm sure you know this page already, but if not, here's the formulas for a few more: http://www.pegtop.net/delphi/articles/blendmodes/

You bet smile:evil: -- this page has several serious errors, and some of the modes they describe don't match the Photoshop modes.

Added those to our list.

A drop down menu "control" to change blend modes would add some versitility here! or is there a way to do this with the slider?

We've dropped the List controls because they're way more complex to implement and use than the controls Filter Forge currently has -- and we never regretted that. Loric, the programmer who did controls and remappers, literally bows to me every time he remembers that I scrapped the List controls smile:)

Hi Quasimondo.

Until this is implemented, could you not use linear light?
With Linear light you can add and subtract using 128 as the mid point

So to Subtract
Invert image and blend with Linear light at 50% opacity.

I just spotted that Linear Light is missing as well
Oh well. Looks like we will just have to wait.

I don't rememebr the exact definition of overlay, but if i remember right, it's something like "if brighter add, and if darker substract" or was it with "screen" and "multiply" modes... anyway, the idea is to give parameters to such modes, a curve that defines which brightness get brighter or darker, or having a parameter to control how much to multiply the layers when in "multyply" blending mode etc. etc.

How about Max and Min blending modes which use whichever source pixel is brightest (or darkest). Is there another way to do this presently?

We've got that already- it's called "Lighten" and "Darken".

Humm - on second thought... Are you referring to the luminance of the pixel?

Just trying to bump Linear Light to the high-priority feature list.
For me Linear Light is fundamental for serious image processing.

..and it's dead easy to implement, isn't it? smile:D smile:D

Good news.

If everything goes as planned, Linear Light, Linear Burn and Linear Dodge will be available in the next update.

Since Linear Dodge is a channel-wise addition and Linear Burn a channel-wise subtraction, we can consider Add and Subtract modes implemented as well.

We're also working on Vivid Light and Exclusion.

Good news indeed! smile:D

I can't remember ever using Vivid Light for anything.
Does anybody really use this?

UPDATE: the quote above is technically incorrect -- these modes aren't based on addition/subtraction, they increase/decrease the brigtness of the "background" image based on the "foreground" image. We're working on it.

Meanwhile, you can assemble these modes manually using the Brightness/Contrast component (hint: its Brightness input can be mapped).

UPDATE#2 -- the above post is not entirely correct, things are a bit more complex. Here's how to do Linear Light (look inside the filter):
