The lighting in FF really remings me of those HDRI lights you can download so i think it would be great if you could import your own HDRI light, if thats not going to happen a few more lights would be cool.

They're stored in "C:\Program Files\Filter Forge\Environments". The only thing is figuring out which image format .ffenv is.

You can import your own HDRIs: In the main menu, select Tools > HDRI Import...

Speaking of HDRI import. I know that purists will probably howl over this, but I would like to be able to import also simple JPEGs as lighting maps. I know that the quality would probably be sub-optimal, but I think that for experimental or artistic purposes this could offer a whole range of new possibilities - for example think about projecting typography or graphics onto a texture.

Save the JPEG as an EXR (in Photoshop for example), and import it ![]() |

Ah - EXR is the secret word! Thanks!

Hmmm - it looks like EXR export seems to be available only on Photoshop CS or CS2. Looks like I'm hopelessly behind with my 7.0...

Hmmm - I just exported an EXR file from photoshop and tried to import it, but even after 5 minutes the "importing..." progressbar box is still open without any change. Do I have to use any special export settings to make it work?

HDRI importing is very slow. While our algorithm is like 40x faster than generic brute-force one (see Paul Debevec's HDRShop), it still requires a lot of computation effort, since we're computing width*height*K cosine-weighted spherical integrals, where K is a number roughly equal to 15.
I would recommend you to use images no larger than 400x200 (latitude-longitude format) to get reasonable import times. Future releases may support multithreaded import (it's was implemented long time ago, just not "plugged into" the interface) for those people with dualcore CPUs. P.S. The progress bar is slow at the start and will get MUCH faster in the end ![]() |

Ehem? It's still not in version 5 at least. ...and any insight about how to implement:
So we can navigate through a spherical image like in the lighting tab? _____________________________________________________
