It would be nice to have nodes that could be minimized (shade on linux) when not needed.

Softimage XSI has a very nice implementation of this. Attached image.

Also grouping into a container would be great. Fusion 5 does this nicely.

Buck -- we had the vertical collapse feature in our earlier prototypes, but scrapped it later, because it wasn't very helpful -- the width is a bigger problem than the height.

Hopefully, the Tree Zoom feature will reduce the need for minimization.

P.S. Personally, I don't like the way it is done in XSI (the tree-state switch, full/partial/minimized).

How so?

Imo, its nice because you can leave them all collapsed and when you drag a connection over the node and let go it gives you a quick popup of all options you can plug it into. Select from the list and it plugs it in.
