Sorry if this has already been discussed.
For purposes of intuitive simplicity it would be nice if the filter designer could declare how the various function keys (shft alt cntrl) define an active (user selected) slider. For example, a slider in one state could rotate an image, in another could move the image, in another could change the size of an image and in another could resize while constraining proportions. The name associated with the active control could change with the key press as a descriptor for the user and the color of the multi-function controls could be different from that of simple controls. This is behavior familiar to PS and AI users and it would go a long way in reducing the appearance of complexity that filters with many controls have.

Thanks,
Ron

A while back I think someone (maybe Kraellin) was asking about a knob/switch with a controller which would do something similar.

Here's how I imagine the idea: If you switched the first controller to 5, the second controller controlled contrast. If you switched the first controller to 2, the second controller controlled brightness (without affecting the contrast value).

This could slim down the controllers (but it might be hard to remember which number corresponded to which parameter). Also, when you switched that first controller, it would probably be more convenient if that second slider auto-adjusted to the current value of whatever parameter that it was about to change -- so you could do slight adjustments, without having to first find the original value again. (Using hotkeys might get confusing here if the slider is at the wrong value when you're about to change a different parameter...(?))

Anyway, interesting idea...

That would be the problem for the average user.....but good idea for advanced users..... smile:)

actually, there is probably a simpler method than some of this. one could add certain global controls to the GUI. they wouldnt need to be keys or component sliders. things like all angle rotate would qualify for this. also, magnify and reverse-magnify would also qualify. and if you really wanted to get fancy, add some skews and warps, like pincushion and barrel.

and in light of the fact that there are now 3 different levels of FF one can purchase, these global controls make even more sense.

I was thinking of something more general purpose. Take the beautiful ‘meyeballs’ by meyendlesss for example, most of the sliders fit neatly into a few categories like iris, artery and lens. With the function keys redefining the slider the, selecting the slider would also select the group while the function keys would select the item. I don’t think this would be considered an advanced feature for PS users as this is normal operating procedure.

Adding vanishing point controls, IMHO, would be one of the few additions that would break with FF’s philosophy of minimal redundancy with low-end products but still be worth the addition. But for it to be worth it these controls would need to be a major feature set with all the controls of PS’s vanishing point filter, otherwise I don’t think it would be worth it.
