there is a great, if seldom used, function in paint shop pro. i believe photoshop has this also. it's called simply 'Arithmetic'. this allows the blending of the different RGB channels by arithmetical functions. it's a simple thing, but quite powerful.

i know others have asked for other blend modes here on the forums. well, here's another. this is different, however. since you already have the various extraction and assemble modules, it seems a natural addition to FF.

edit: actually, it allows the blending of whole images and not just the channels.

Yes, plus it is easy to implement. We're still thinking about what operations to include into this component. The preliminary name is "Color Math".

If the component can process images (map inputs), then you can use the same component and same operations for the channels.

The operations of the very powerful 'channel boleans' tool inside Fusion 5.1.
smile;)

Booleans aren't possible in the current FF architecture -- you can't do bitwise operations on floating-point data.

Well, "Booleans" is a misnomer, IMO, but that's what the tool is called in Fusion. It's really a channel arithmetic or channel math tool.

It actually has bitwise booleans -- OR, XOR (aka Exclusive OR), AND, INVERT (aka Negative). Looks like Fusion's internal pipeline is integer.

As for the tool itself, I absolutely agree that having math for colors is a good thing. It is already on our list.

Actually, Fusion fully supports 32-bit float processing. But, when working with float values, the bitwise 'boolean' operations are unavailable, or rather, they have no effect. However, they are available for 8-bit per channel composites...

So there we have it. smile;)

I know this thread is rather old, but I have a question about the plans for this module..

Will it allow you to do all channels at once, or will it be a per channel component?

If its just the latter, I hope you will add some of the operators (Add, Subtract and Divide) to the blendmode list in the "Blend" module - like in many other programs (Photoshop also have Add and Subtract, only available in the "Calculations" dialog though)
