I have a few filters which use switches to get different looks. Some switches make it so that some of the filter controls are non-applicable. I would think it neat to see un-usable filter controls become grayed out if certain switches yield them non applicable at times.

I.E. I have a checkbox that toggles between an image, and a tri-tone of the image. The three colors for the tri-tone and the corresponding thresholds have very little (absolutley no) effect when the checkbox is checked for the image; however, the color and the three different threshold sliders seem confusing to the user when they have no effect.

So the problem is some users try sliding the threshold slider and it doesn't do anything, then they switch to a tri-tone image and don't move the sliders because they have already seen the sliders don't do anything (So they think). Therefore it would be user friendly to gray out non-applicable controls.

redcap, i suggested this a LONG while ago smile:) in fact, i went a step further, have controls ONLY show up at all if that switch position is in use.

redcap, that idea came about from when we had only 10 controls allowed in the GUI and then we got unlimited. i was simply trying to figure out a way to make the whole thing more paletable to vladimir. 10 controls was too limiting, but having, say, 100, was somewhat unweildy. so, i came up with that suggestion.

you could actually do the control list much the same way we do file trees. simply stick a little + sign next to a switch control and when you click on the + it would open up that leg of the filter and the controls within that leg. it's a convention anyone using windows already knows, so it would be quite intuitive.
