Just wondering... Are there any plans for a 64-bit version of Filter Forge? smile:D

Technically, a 64-bit version for Windows isn't a problem -- shouldn't take more than a month of work. However, I see no point in releasing a 64-bit edition since it won't bring any benefits, and most likely will just slow things down.

Here's a great article on 64-bitness and Photoshop, written by Scortt Byer, the software architect of Photoshop:

Really, no Benefits??? I would think that the color and detail enhancement would be like night and day.....but you certainly know how it would effect this program better than I. Does FF being scipt-based also bring limitations to it???

Scott sums it up quite nicely. 64-bitness means larger address space, and that's basically it. For software which is already capable of handling large bitmaps, like Photoshop and Filter Forge, this brings no benefits.

Ah, I thought 32 to 64 bitness would enhance picture info per bit/pixel.....interesting.....

FF already does everything in double-precision floating point, but unfortunately we couldn't find any image file format that supports this bit depth smile:D

Meanwhile you can use OpenEXR and PFM if you need higher precision per pixel.

I recently installed FF on my new 64-bit rig running XP Pro x64 Edition. FF runs just fine on it, but I felt a little allergic itch while it installed into the dusty 'Program Files (x86)' folder. smile:D
