I've recently been constructing some filters where it would be excellent to have lighting components in the tree and be able to use the simple filter result. It may sound unnecessary, but there are alot of really cool things that could be done with that ability.....

Yeah, I was just trying to be the "squeeky wheel" by posting something about it again
![]() ![]() This would also allow lighting control parameters to be set and added to the filter controls.....which I would absolutely love to have!!! And even sweeter.....an HDRI component editor to make your own custom lighting components.....which would open up "worlds" of new filter concepts..... Steve

Great idea, i may not be around all the time but try to check the forums every now and then, mac port seems to be the focus at the moment but when thats done i hope that ideas like this start getting added, FF is already a great program but it could be even better with stuff like this

I could be temporarily satisfied by having complete control over existing lighting parameters merged with the filter controls.....shoot high and maybe get a little something
![]() ![]() As it stands in my opinion, control over existing lighting is too uncontrollable and disconnected. I don't use randomized lighting with the surface result because of all the "undesirable" effects you can get.....so I hardly ever use the surface result unless I want a gloss, glaze, or shiny effect that I can not reproduce with the simple result.....and never randomize it...... PS..... I haven't forgotten about wanting lockable controls too.....little check boxes to the right or left of controls.....to help users zero in on effects thru randomization.....and help authors zero in on problems in filter construction ![]() Steve

You can just put controls for the surface adjustments (the 3 below the height input which is required, on the *result* module) and set them to 0, then tweak the lighting controls, to basically bypass the lighting altogether for some of your presets (so that some presets have the texture/lighting, and some look the same as if they were made with a *simple* style filter). If that's what you meant in your original post here.
