here's a thought; since it's possible to simply change a .jpg to an .exr by simply changing the extension in windows explorer and that that then makes it possible to import this former, but still really a .jpg into FF as a lighting environment, why not just allow a direct import of .jpg's (and maybe even other file formats) into the HDRI import function? seems a simple enough thing.

Well, it was more a term-oriented decision, since JPEG's are not HDRIs, so importing them as HDRIs sounds wrong. Maybe HDRI Import should be renamed to Lighting Environment import or whatever. If it is renamed, I think accepting JPEG's, BMP's and other LDR images may be fine.

yeah, that sounds about right. just seemed a bit silly to me to have to change a .jpg to .exr before i could import it. so, if it's a semantics thing, please smile:)

also, what is an 'LDR' image? the only ldr i'm familiar with is light dependent resistor.

LDR is Low Dynamic Range (as opposed to High Dynamic Range in HDR) smile:)
